Captain Pugwash was one of my favourite programmes as a kid - along with Noggin the Nog, whose creator also died recently.
RIPJohn Ryan, a man who never coined the name "Master Bates".

James Luther Dickinson died yesterday... Legendary maverick Memphis producer and recording artist, he produced everyone from Big Star to The Replacements to The Cramps to the Panther Burns, he took the Stones to Muscle Shoals where they cut Brown Sugar (he played the piano on Wild Horses) as well as playing with Dylan, the Flamin' Groovies and too many other awesome people to mention... He was an immensely talented producer (check out Big Star's Sister Lovers) and became totally marginalised by the music industry for speaking his mind one too many times... He was happy to kick around at his place in North Mississippi producing the odd record for his kids and watching wrestling on the goggle box... A rock 'n' roll genius who never sold out and never stopped fightin' the man, he'll be missed greatly... Here's a link to an article written by my old spar Joss Hutton that I published in a fanzine I used to run... I'm gutted... :[
"World boogie is comin'" Jim Dickinson (1941-2009) R.I.P.

No fucking way !!!
The Swayze is dead !
That is unbelievable, he was only mid 50's !!

Damn, just checked the news, he's gone - an 80's icon. :(
Fucking cancer again, if we hadn't spent 2000 years fucking around with superstition and church building we would have had that one in the bag (can't believe I just blamed Swayze's death on religion!, but fuck it nonetheless).
Most of you won't appreciate his particular brand of cheeseball balladeering (you heathens), but at least he wrote and sung all his own stuff.
RIP, John Ryan, creator of Cap'n Pugwash who died today.
I love that he successfully sued many newspapers who erroneously reported the urban myth that two of the characters were 'Roger the Cabin Boy' and 'Seaman Staines'.
