Helmut Schmidt.
In recent years, he acquired near-mythical status in Germany, but he was still the chancellor who lost power to the egregious Helmut Kohl and made a number of very poor major political judgement calls. He leaves a very mixed legacy. Of course, he can easily be seen as a political giant compared to today's assortment of minnows. He will still be missed, although not as much as Willy Brandt.
