Doris Lessing. RIP.
- On being told she'd won the Nobel prize, answered "Oh Christ" looking really pissed off.

One of my very oldest and closest friends, even though as the years have gone by as happens, we drifted apart. But always in my heart and always in mind.

Sad news. He had a pretty hard time of it, I think.
I do believe he killed his partner, a mercy killing, but the police and media hounded him until he was forced to change his story. His view on Northern life was great, telling the other side, not the gritty or grim, but the humorous and touching. He seemed like a really nice bloke,
RIP Ray Gosling.

He didn't kill his partner - he had made it all up for something he was filming.
He seemed very troubled especially after it was revealed he wasn't telling the truth - think it really changed him.
Jon Ronson wrote an interesting piece about meeting him.
I hope he's found peace

I honestly thought that was reference to the mentalist crack-head from Studio 54 and "Live and Let Die".

Roger Moore has nothing but nice things to say about all his leading ladies, except Grace Jones, about whom he merely says that he was taught not to say anything if he couldn't say anything nice.

I was saddened to learn of the suicide of someone who'd become a good friend from the moment he worked on my car. Those of you who own older vehicles will be well-aware that you have to have a good feeling when you hand your pride and joy over to a mechanic. For him it wasn't about "an earner" - he genuinely loved seeing people's faces when he unveiled what he'd achieved. I didn't know him for long and his state of mind was never, ever anything other than very positive and very easy-going.
He was a true master at his craft and will be sorely missed by his young son as well as the people whose dreams he'd made come true. His speciality was bringing VW Campers back from the dead, but he wasn't so snobby to work on newer vehicles...
He took five months to undertake the work on my car because certain parts are no longer made at the rate they were and he didn't once moan about having to store her or move her around. The work was completed after I'd moved overseas, so he contacted my old man and together they placed the car in its' new home. I spoke to him on several occasions after and he was genuinely pleased with the outcome and even cheekily made me an offer on it.
RIP Des and shine on you crazy diamond.

Cool to meet people who love their craft and can share that joy with others through their labour.
Sorry to hear about your friend. -

RIP Stan Stennett aka Sid Hooper in the original Crossroads.
He was also the friend that Eric Morecambe was appearing with when he had his fatal heart attack.

Loved him in Who Dares Wins.
Obviously a very weak-willed individual. She only had to last another 24 days until her 114th birthday. 2/10, would not mourn.
(awww bless her, would really*)
