RIP Gore Vidal!
A great writer, screen writer, politician and commentator.
"Amy American who is prepared to run for President should automatically, by definition, be disqualified for ever doing so."
"By the time a man gets to be presidential material, he's been bought ten times over."
Interviewer - "In your opinion, what's the greatest thing America has given to the world?"
Gore Vidal - "Kleenex"

Norman Mailer punched Gore Vidal at a party after a bad review. Still on the floor, Vidal declared "Once again, words fail Norman Mailer".

Tony Sly, the singer from No Use For A Name, dead at 41.
Someone posted it on Facebook, the name rang a bell, then I remembered who it was. Not sure how many others on here will be aware of their existence, but when I was 14 I fucking loved this band. Seeing them live at Leeds Festival as a young 'un was a brilliant experience. Haven't really listened to them for years, and I'm not sure how I put up with that clicky-click drum beat all those years, but even though the production on their records got steadily worse, his voice was always class.
My old favourite song:
no use for a name - exit - YouTube
Pure pop:
No use for a name - international you day - YouTube

Too young; obviously. I saw them in Hackney Wick in the early 90s, a great little gig.
