Hi. I've found an used Dolan Pre Cursa, frame size: 56cm, for sale "nearby"(it would still be a day trip from my place). I'm planning to use it as an everyday city bike. I have never ridden a road/track bike before, so i'm a little unsure about the right frame size.
I'm 5ft 11 inch (180cm) so according to the information on Dolan's website the frame should fit me well. However, my inseam (about 30 inch, ~76cm) seems shorter than usual for my height. The omnicalculator frame size calculator says I need more likely a 51cm frame. I'm a bit confused, because the Dolan website says the 52cm frame size fits people with max. 167cm height.
Should I look for a 50 or 52cm frame instead? I would hate to drive that far only to find that the 56cm frame is way too big for me.

56cm unless you want a huge saddle to bar drop

Anyone paint stripped one of the more recent Pre Cursas, with the filler around headtube and seat cluster? Wonder if the filler will look gargabe next to raw alu.

Hand stripped this so could definitely make it look cleaner with decent paint stripper, adding decals would make it look nicer I reckon

Might be a stupid question but here goes :)
I ride a medium or 54 in all road bikes i have had. At 175cm tall and a 30.5 inseam most bike frames seem to work. 73.7 mid saddle to mid spindle. I ordered a 54cm pre cursa after some to and fro with them because the measurements seemed a bit odd. I suggested a 52 and they said a 54 will be fine.Theres no slope to the top tube either-not compared to my Addict or TCR. I rode the new bike at HHV sunday and quickly discovered theres next to no room , when straddling the bike, between my crotch and top of the frame. Only an issue when stopping and starting but a big one as i get used to fixie riding. My gut feeling is to swap to a 52 but is what i am describing quite common on fixed gear bikes? Advice welcome.

All the pics of FXE with mudguards have the wheel quite far back in the dropouts...is the brake bridge the limiting factor there? Has anyone got an FXE with the rear wheel tight in the dropouts? Quite fancy an FXE but hate the huge gap between seattube and rear wheel!

Think it’s more a case if that’s just where the wheel sits, mudguards or no. There was no conscious thought about positioning the wheel on mine at least. Pretty sure it was in the middle of the drop outs.
Maybe the longer chain stays just give the impression of the wheel being far out

ah ok, so you could have it slammed in +mudguards u reckon?

The chain stay bridge is an inch out from the seat post, so you won’t get the wheel closer than that
(If I understand correctly)

Just picked this up cheap as chips for a budget commuter/city bike build. Does anyone know what it is? It's not a Pre Cursa, is it an early FXE?
Also, the seller has a very short seatpost in there atm, which needs replacing, and he's adamant it's 31.8mm. Is this right? 31.8mm is a bar clamp size, no?
Cheers in advance.

I may be wrong but it just looks like an old pre cursa frame (I think earlier ones had Dolan on the seat tube rather than the “pre cursa” they have now), fitted with a fork with a shorter axle crown than you’d normally see?

I think you might be right. It's supposedly an old British Cycling training bike from early last decade (seller bought it from Glasgow velodrome). So that would make sense. It doesn't have the rear brake mount a FXE has either.

Not enough clearance and no bosses (that I can see) so that rules out a fxe.
And 31.6 seat posts are reasonably common so could well be correct (though iirc FXE’s and newer pcs come with 27.2)

I know 31.6 is a reasonably common size for a track bike, had a Cinelli that was that size. But 31.8?

27.2 seatpost for sure!

gotta dig out a pic now!
