Thank you! That's an awesome bike, by the way!

Getting the Dolan winter-ready. Geared down, dynamo light, 44cm planet x gravel bars. Mudguards and rear light left to do.

My long serving Dolan. Never my most fancy bike, but the most fun one. Recently got 75s, and some Mack/tb14 rims. Way too 'nice' for this bike.

Hey,
love this thread. I am on the fence about buying a pre cursa.
Unfortunately I am a bit unsure about the size as it is my first track and fixed gear bike.I am 1,85 m with a leg inseam of 89-90 cm and long arms.
The 58cm size seems to be right, but I see a lot of guys downsizing.I am a pretty aggressive rider and like to do sprints a lot and take corners fast.
In summer I want to participate in crit race just for fun.
So comfort is not so important. Can you guys help me out ?

56
I am 184 and did 54 - so it might be an option as well.

I am 186 (91 inseam) and went with the 56. First track bike for me as well.
I am running 20mm risers, about 20mm of spacers and a positive stem and still have about 10cm of saddle to bar drop.
If I had to choose between the 56 and 58 again, I'd go with the 58.
On the other hand I'm just street riding and not doing races... -

Thanks for your advice. Already read your comments some pages ago.
Seems so counter intuitive to go that small (my steel road bike for daily use is about 61cm c-t).
Looking at the official size guide, I could even use a 60 cm.
If I didn't read this thread, I would already have ordered the 58cm frame. What are the advantages of going so small ? Really curious about the reasons behind your decision (more aero ? improved handling ? ).

Thanks a lot for the info.
The decision is getting tougher ;) -

I have a 60cm that i'd let go for cheap- only issue is it has no fork. Comes with everything else that a factory one would though!

I am 180 and ride a 54. A great fit for me.

I wanted my drop in front of the front axel - adding a 135mm stem - and a deep drop.
On the fixie crit scene, the super deep drop doesn't seem to be present on the top riders/teams.

Thanks for going into detail. This really helps me going forward. A 135mm stem or longer would be a tad too long for me as I am used to 100-120mm stems. So 56cm seems a good choice.
What is your guess why the fixie crit scene don't use super deep drops compared to track riders ? I think it must be the handling as you are often confronted with sudden crashes and a packed peloton. Maybe a higher position helps with the overview too.
I have never ridden a really deep drop. How does it feel while cornering compared to a standard road bike position ? -

Thanks for chiming in. Seems 56 cm is the way to go although my instincts tell me 58. But what do I know ;) Found by chanche a article about the bike Chris Froome has ridden at TDF.I am pretty much similar build, but heavier. He is rocking a 56 too. So I will probably will go for a 56.
Really looking forward to my first Dolan and start riding fixed. -

Thx for the info. 56 cm should be alright then for me.

Thanks for chiming in. Seems 56 cm is the way to go although my instincts tell me 58.
You're right, go for the 58cm, it's ironically shorter than the 56cm.

What colour/year is it? I potentially might be interested?

I'm currently running 28c Conti Contact with the Alpina track fork, and it would possibly fit even 30c but I haven't tried yet. Anyone on here who did?
Also wonder if 32c studded tires would fit into the Dolan winter fork?
Thanks,

30c studded into the winter fork should be fine, 32c try it!

I broke another Pre-Cursa by hitting a wall... ;)
Anyone has a beater 54 frame going spare?

@Xshzu pic's here https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/294112/?offset=75
I got 35mm conti CX races into a winter fork with a caliper on. While it fitted and spun freely there wasn't much sidewall to fork wiggle room, so out of the saddle powering or anything that might deflect the wheel would cause rubbing, add mud to that as well and expect to damage the fork.
I never rode the bike on 35mm as concern of damage.
I reckoned a 30mm would be ok and allow for light/slushy mud. 32mm would depend on is it really a 32 ? and will it be seeing lots of grinding paste mud clogging :) -
• #4099
30mm is pushing it with the Aplina track fork, 28mm is already tight enough.

@Thuekr @853Superfly Thanks guys, I will try some studded 30c's with the winter/road fork. Hopefully not too soon though.
@edscoble Well, you're prolly right.
I dont have a picture but they fit.
Not a dolan, but a alpina fork with 28c gartorskin. fits with both a wide HED c2 rim and a narrow SRAM S60 rim : https://www.pedalroom.com/bike/crowe-rishworth-everyday-26253
