  • Looks really wide... ( but could be lense. angle)

here is sram omnium for comparison (134.7mm Q-factor):

  • A question on Pre Cursa forks.

I had the FXE with the carbon Road fork, before selling it on i did use the dolan road/winter fork on my Steamroller. It worked rather well. bit shorter than the steamroller fork and stiffer, quite a bit lighter too.
Sort of regret selling the Dolan as it would have been a better base for spaffing around with as 10 mile TT'er.

Soooooo, been looking and watching on here, but i get nervous about secondhand carbon forks, the Dolan with Alu steerer will fit my headseat no problem.

Question 1 Precursa Alpina track fork, drilled for brake. Real world weight ?

Question 2 the road fork is fairly burly and stiff, the Track looks spindly, tapered legs. How are they with a 28c tyre (can they fit one ?) how are they on tarmac ? track all right.

Should knock half a kilo off the steamroller, whats the real world max tyre size/brand that fits. Useage would be summer time, TT practice and tarmac rides.
Running Clement Strada LGG 28c at the moment.

  • Scanning through the thread.
Found a link to picture on page 147, shows a 25c fitted with around 2mm clear to crown.
28c conti gatorskins fit Alpina track.
    28c conti GP400

  • Not ridden either but they do look pretty good. If I was building another fast fixed on a budget avoiding flashy components, would definitely consider them.
Think I prefer the Alpina branding on a Dolan, so would probably still go for that, personally.

  • I think my pic on 147 was actually 28c Gators. And I rode the Alpina track fork on road, it was nice, no issues. Makes the frame/fork clearance tighter, similar to a Pre Cursa and bike looks overall smarter.

  • @Squaredisk yep that was the picture i looked at.
haven't gone back more than 2 years of the thread in case things have changed over the years.

    will look back further.
From memory the road fork i had could take a 35mm but it would most likely rub under load and zero room for mud. I reckoned that would be fine with 30 or 32c max.
Unlikely i will see a PC in the flesh for some time so trying to guess from pictures how much tyre can be shoehorned in the fork.
Would be happy with 25c but you know, bigger is comfy. Carbon would be summer use only and for playing TT Biek with.

  • I have a 52cm PC frame ( i need to double check) sitting round doing nothing. £50 quid covers what it cost me. If it might help you.

  • Got the alpina road forks with 28c on with no problems, prefer the fork to the track version, got mine second hand with headset for £21 so happy, picture with mudguard fitted

  • 28c is very tight on my track alpina, on a pre-cursa. So much so that I went for 25c

  • Dolan selling some ex-velodrome hire bikes for cheap prices in the outlet>bikes section.

  • Picked up one of the ex velodrome Precursa’s. I’ve been off bikes for a few years but wanted to pick up a cheap full build. It’s perfect for what I wanted.

  • So decided to build up a bike and get my knee recovered and riding again. Went for the Gun Metal Grey pre Cursa. #Stoked. PS if you see me on road a few weeks on a super skinny gear say hi. #Kneerecoverysucks.

  • OT I know, but I do think gear ratio does a lot for (or against lol) your knees.
I went from 17/48 to 17/46 this season and haven't had any knee pain since :)

    Good luck BTW

  • Thanks for the advice I am running granny gearing until my knee is ready. Still get knee pain at times off the bike. But its considerably mild now.

  • anyone had difficulty fitting the sealed sugino 103mm bottom bracket on their pre cursa?

  • A quick question for Track Champion bods:

Are there issues with the seat post clamp area cracking?

I went to look at a tidy TC the other day only to find a crack in the top of the clamp inline with the countersunk stop (for want of a better description). The owner didn't think it was a real issue but I did. Just wondered if people have had similar experiences?

Why Dolan didn't use a plan seat post clamp is odd.
    Cheers Jon

  • They’re not nicknamed crack champ for nothing. A lot of the older ones cracked there. Not sure about the reissue newer ones

  • Having to modify returned Track Champions to fit a traditional seat collar after cracking, presumably, was one of the main reasons why Dolan stopped making it.
The TC1, released a few years after they stopped selling the original, resolved the issue by using a traditional seat collar (that matches the elliptical profile of the seat tube).

  • Bit of design flaw then. Shame. Looks like a good stiff track frame.

  • Built this yesterday, bought it for a mate who's swapping me a 56cm as it's too big for him. Thought i'd build it up until I go see him so that i've got something to ride.

  • Hello everyone! I've decided to go for a Pre Cursa as my first ever build. I'm going to have a million questions along the way, but I'll start off with the most basic stuff.

I stand 180cm (~5'11") tall with an 81cm (~31") inseam. Any PC-owners in here with similar measurements? What size should I go for? I was thinking 54, but I'm not sure.

Next are the wheels. The Halo Aero Track rear + Aero Rage front seem like decent options after reading the reviews, but I honestly don't know what to look for. Any other suggestions in the same price range? I'd be willing to spend up to £200 (+ shipping within the EU) for the set.

Also looking for a 19t sprocket + locking. Any suggestions here? I will (hopefully) get a 18/17t in the future, but I want to ease my knees into riding fixed.

Might be worth mentioning that I'll be getting the SRAM Omnium crankset, just in case it makes a difference for the choice of wheels/sprocket?

Sorry to bother you guys with so many questions at once, and my apologies if this should have been posted somewhere else. It's at least partly related to the thread.

Very similar measurements to me. I've got a 54.

  • Considering the size, I'm 1,85m, long limbs and short corpus, I had 54 version and found it pretty long. If you are looking for more ability to fit it to yourself I would recommend 52.

At this price range maybe look for some decent used stuff as Halos are pretty heavy. If you are planning to ride only on the streets maybe even road version of front wheel.

  • Same dims as me. Go 54. Top tube will feel too short on a 52. I once owned a 56 and top tube was fine, but it needed more visible seatpost to look good.

You can make a small bike longer by adding stem length and seatpost setback, but you can't make a big frame smaller without making it look shit.
