  • They don't fit on the newer ones?

  • WTB: Old model pre-cursa size 50 :(

  • Ah, that's a bit shit

  • They ruined them, trying to accommodate fannies who run wide tyres.

  • Doesn't make sense, as the old ones took 35c cross tyres...

  • Yeah even the Finish mundheld doesn't apply

Wise enough to know what you need silly enough not to do so

  • Then I presume the new ones will take larger than that. They changed the forming of the chainstay to accommodate more rubber, which is why Omniums won't fit. A dumb decision IMO.

  • My Pre Cursa
with Omnium :) but older frame with new decals :)

  • Looks great! Is there any clearcoat over the alu or is it completely raw?

  • Also, are they BDW hubs? Let me know if you ever case the front wheel and want to sell! Been looking for a 24h front one to match the rear 28h on my winter bike.

  • The brake bridge was the limiter on the old PC - if they haven't moved it up by 10mm - then still the bottleneck for bigger tyres.

  • Damn! That makes it even worse (if they haven't moved the seatstay bridge)...
Think I'm being a bit harsh... Nobody outside the company knows whether Omniumgate was Dolan's own doing (inadvertently), or if it was the result of a change of manufacturer (in the Far East), or the existing one choosing to make the chainstays differently.
There will be a technical drawing somewhere, that was either signed-off with the new dimensions, or was/has always been left dimensionless, allowing the manufacturer to exploit its ambiguity.

  • Yes! It's BDW hubs! 24/24
There are still in stock but not in his ebay's store, send him a message on ebay and he send you a Paypal invoice, he's very fast and hubs are so pretty!!

  • Ah great, thanks for the advice, will do!

  • Putting that surplus Omnium on my Pre Cursa a few posts up got me thinking. Has anyone got a pic of a black Pre Cursa with all silver parts?

  • The brake bridge was the limiter on the old PC - if they haven't moved it up by 10mm - then still the bottleneck for bigger tyres.

They haven't moved it and yes it is the only thing stopping bigger tyres. If the wheel is in a forward position on track end even a 25c gets close to the bridge. On a previous frame I took a curved file to the underside of bridge to make room for a 28c (only something I would do on a £99 frame)

  • cant believe they have fucked up so badly. wonder if they are in the midst of sorting it out for the next batch

  • Not really, it's just a cheap track frame that Dolan didn't even know the geometry of.

  • Interestingly I emailed Dolan re: the FXE frame and the Omnium crankset and got the following response:

    "Hello Alex,

The SRAM Omnium crankset should work on the FXE without any problems.

    Best Regards

    Jamie"

Unfortunately the FXE starts at a size 52 which im 99% sure is going to be too long for me. It would be interesting to know of anyones actually had success fitting an Omnium to the FXE, I was under the impression they were the same frame but with a different fork and bottle/rack bosses. Unless the FXE is actually based on the old Pre Cursa frame?

  • I think you're kinda overdoing this whole 'omniumgate' thing. It's a budget frame, what exactly are you expecting? I took a file to my old one, managed to fit 38 rears and 40mm fronts on 23mm rims.
Just buy an old one or get a goldsprint or something.

  • Precisely - track frame. Absolutely no need to comfortably accommodate rubber wider than 23mm.

  • I have an old one (a rare 'mild lo-pro' one, so probably another batch manufacturing blunder), ran Omniums on it in the past, and currently run SG75s, so it's not a problem for me. Yes, it is a budget frame, but it's shame that such a popular crank cannot now be used with it.
It was the purchasing experience of @larsenroad , and contributions from people like myself, that helped alert Dolan to the problem in the first place, which led to the non-compatibility notice being displayed on their site, so when people come to this thread for advice, I want to try to help.

  • Dolan have really dropped a bollock with the Omnium thing. It's a great crank and can be had relatively cheap when compared to others (e.g. sugino 75s and the DD version too), even more so if you manage to get them second hand. Combined with Omniums, Pre Cursas make a decent track bike for actually riding the track or for just riding around the street and the new colour looks nice so it is a shame. Someone on the WNR rides one of the new Pre Cursas with Omniums. I think that it's one of the larger frame sizes but am not sure if that makes too much of a difference.
