I think it should still be there, ahh bah, thought you left on the bike, you got that bb cup out btw?
-
• #2607
yeah its all there apart from the seatpost.
chainline isn't great either but not much i can do about that at the minute -
• #2608
Probably not worth it if you have to pay a lot to get it done.
Def worth it if you have a mate that can decently weld and will do it for cheapss
-
• #2609
Its possible to solder alu with zinc, apparently its stronger than welding and alot easier. Clean the alu surface, heat it to 400 C to get the zinc flowing, scratch the alu surface with a sharp stainless object (like a sharpend spoke) to break the aluminumoxide and presto! I tried to find a youtube video but failed, only got this article i swedish but you can look at the pictures for reference: http://www.classicmotor.se/artiklar/artiklar/20100212/aluminiumlodning-med-zink

anyone mind telling me what stem rise works with pre cursa to get a horizontal 'rise'? -17? did a bit of jfg'ing it, but I know fuck all about stems.
current setup is negative rise, which is ok, but I find aesthetically annoying with a positive rise tt.
-
• #2612
also, stupid question probably, is a negative/positive rise on a stem counteracted in the length to give the same reach? IE, is a horizontal 100mm stem going to 'feel' longer than a -17 100mm stem?
-
• #2613
size 50-58 all have 73 head angle, so -17 should work with the factory fork.
I have a 17 thomson on my PC (Wing Pista fork) and it's flat. -
• #2614
im on 60 frame, so 74 HT angle, surely the fork wouldn't make a difference would it?
-
• #2615
Geo will be measured around the standard Alpina F04 fork, given that it takes into account BB drop below line between F/R axles, and ST length from BB.
Most of the time you won't notice 1 degree difference. Hope a -16 stem exists.
Which fork are you using? -

In answer to your other question, generally a horizontal one will feel longer (assuming you could hack the drop/arching of the back with a negative stem). Nitto are an exception as they measure stem length (properly;) perpendicular from steerer centreline to clamp centre, so a 120mm Nitto stem measured along the shaft, like most manufacturers, will be closer to 130mm...
I have a 35deg 'riser' stem inverted on one bike. I did some maths and worked out the reach was equivalent to about 90mm 'flat' 17deg stem.EDIT:
Above description of Nitto stem measurement only applies to some stems. See factory doc:

so I would be looking at potentially, a slightly shorter stem.
I use either a alu fork off a fuji Track classic, or a BLB AF01, which I'm just not quite sure if I trust or not with the daily commute across london, I'm sure it's fine, but need it chopping down so hasn't been used for a while.
the position is ok on the negative rise, but it's already pretty short, as I find theTT on a pre cursa a bit much.
-
• #2618
Yes, but by how much shorter depends the angle of your current stem.
By not reaching as low towards the bar, your torso will arc around a point where your backside touches the saddle, so hands moving up/around said arc, will bring your hands closer. Maybe try a cheap 90mm 17deg stem?
Both forks have a hole for a brake, so are likely to be taller/longer than the (track) fork the frame was designed around (can't be certain without measuring). That will further slacken the effective head angle of the frame. Still, 17deg is likely the closest available angle to 'flat' that you'll find without getting an adjustable stem. -
• #2619
as you say, will measure and lopp off a cm from the current measurement, grab a cheap stem and give it a go.
cheers for the help!

• #2620
Anyone in London willing to let me try their pre cursa? really thinking about getting one!
-
• #2621
I got a 56, based in NW, happy for you to have a go. PM me.

Phst slam seatpost etc etc
-
• #2624
hmm yeah but...

@peduarte
I'll be selling my 54cm black Pre-cursa soon. It won't be complete, but I will have a complete one that you can try out beforehand.
PM me if you're interested.
