  • Yeah could do, but love the fact that I can remove the chain to clean it without using a chain tool, can bung the chain in a bottle with degreaser and give it a shake. Am tempted to try one of the DID chains.

Love my DID, but as posted above currently noisy.

Is your DID still noisy? I'm looking into getting a new chain and can't make a decision. Someone make it for me!

  • Its still noisy, but then I havent ridden that bike for ages. Chainline looks good, but the chain seems to stick to the cog slightly (new 1/8" phil wood), might be were the noise is coming from. I fully expect the drivechain to quieten over time, but obviously cant confirm this yet. The chain is really well made, feels strong, and looks great though.

I like the look of this one (just to complicate things).
    KMC D101 SL
    Light and strong

  • Just get one.. :) I recommend a 1/8" if you have 1/8" chainring/cog, and 3/32" if thats what you roll..

If it's for looks get something silver or gold.. ;)

  • I'm trying to eliminate chains and there you go throwing another one in the mixer. Seriously...what are you trying to do to me?? :) Anyone else using the D101 SL?

No objections to the KMC 510 in this here thread. Think I might just give it a go. If it's shit I'll change it. But then our Lord Tynan says the 710 is pretty quiet too. Decisions, decisions.

  • I'm ruling out gold. I think it looks tacky. ducks

The D101 SL is probably no better than the far cheaper 510, its just lighter. I think it was the lightest 1/8" chain I found when I was looking around for chains. Not sure if its still true but the DID was the only all silver NJS approved chain when I bought mine, if that matters (which it doesnt).

  • And the HKK Vertex...

  • my HKK blue went fncking orange after all the salt the bastard council put down when it snowed for a day.
now got a KMC cool, whirs away nicely.

    Is that the 710?

  • yeah, but not the posh one with the holes.

  • heading down towards blackfriars from bank there are two unipac chains lying on the side of the road

    DON'T USE THEM

  • That's cool. I don't do posh anyway! Not at twice the price anyhoo.

  • @Murtle - the chain turning an orangey colour aside, was it quiet?

  • Get the DID. You know you want it! Mine is quite clicky right now but it only went on the bike on Monday. I also have a 3/32" cog on the back which could be contributing. One of the other Glasgow riders has a DID chain and it's silent.

  • @Murtle - the chain turning an orangey colour aside, was it quiet?

funnily enough, yeah, dead quiet, in a very early in the morning or very late at night kind of way

  • wools:
    What's your problem!?!?!?!

  • wools:
    What's your problem!?!?!?!

My sentiments exactly. I meant tacky on a bike. The only place for gold is around your neck!

  • don't do "gold" either.

  • Would look OK with the right cog surely

  • nope, and don't call me shurly

  • wot chain??

  • direct drive

  • who needs chains when you got
    SHAFT

  • ahem
Whats the drive that rules them alllll.....?SHAFT!
