  • Eyebrows - Yeah, when I sleep it tends to be for very long periods, like 16+ hours. I never wake up feeling refreshed after that kind of time. I wake up just as tired as before.

  • If you're happy enough to spend 40 Euros on some CD's then my suggestion would be to buy a Digital Radio Alarm clock. I got one for £15 posted on The Bay.

    Stay with me, I'm not trying to wake you up, I'll get to the point.

    On digital radio there are loads more stations and quite a few are really good to help you sleep. Also, because it's on the radio you don't have to think and select the music. Plus you can set it to turn itself off in an hours time or when you think you'll be asleep.
    I find that Chill radio (might be chill fm) has some really good chilled relaxing music that I have used countless times to help me get off to sleep. There's no presenter talking over the top of the music either.

    Then on top of that are a couple of other good stations: there's a jazz station, rock (if that's what gets you to sleep, and one of my personal favourites for both helping you sleep and wake up in a relaxed manner is Birdsong. It might not work for everyone, but definitely worth a go.

    Also, by using the radio you can sort of wein yourself off the really chilled stuff by moving onto a different radio station and hopefully you'll be able to start getting off to sleep naturally within a short time.

    I also find reading helps me to sleep. I usually only need to read a few pages and I'm out like a blub!

    @Mechamorgan: I think the reason for this is that you've slept too long. I can't remember all of the correct terminology for it but studies have been done which show that if you sleep too little OR too long you will feel similar effects and wake up feeling tired. I find that around 8 hours works for me and I would say never go over 12 hours. Hope that helps.

  • i have trouble relaxing enough for sleep too - listening to radio 5 live on a sleep timer has been effective unless there's something that interests me (dj dalton adebyou not-sure-of-spelling is on weekends 1 to 5 am and is sometimes too interesting) otherwise i try reading some worthy, classic 19th century novel or any of my philosphy books that i should have read when i was an undergrad.

  • bizarrely, i often find psychedelic/goa trance helps me sleep. it sounds crazy, but there's something about the chaos combined with structure that seems to reset my brain and i fall asleep.

    its 6ish in the morning and i've been awake most of the night.
    it takes a while to kick in, but your patience will be rewarded.
    not so much classical, but interesting structure to the composition none the less...
