Thinking about dong a ride round all the microbreweries and pubs in London - is this a good idea?
-
• #703
from a road safety point of view?
no.
i'd be up for it though.

If the only ales being served are Fullers* I'll be off to find another pub. London Pride is shit. The only drinkable ale Fullers make is Honey Dew, which is only acceptable.
*see also Marstons/Green King/Shepard Neame
Meh, Fullers, when kept well, can be divine. But a bad cellar can ruin it.
Fullers also brew Gales, and Gales HSB is the most divine beer ever. The George and Devonshire right next to the Fullers brewery ruins every fucking barrel they get, but in the pub that's actually in the corner of the brewery it tastes divine.
The Thornbury Castle in Enford St also keep it very well and it's always nice in there.
London Pride has a delicious fruity tone that you don't get in other beers. -

I had a very acceptable (and reasonably priced) beer in my not-so-local the other night. Can't remember what it was called, but it was made by the West Berkshire Brewery. Based on the one I tasted, I'd their other beers would be worth a punt.

Kernel Brewery are very happy for us to visit! and we'll be selling some of their lovely beer for cheaper than in the bars at the end of my Charity Alleycat - Gigcat - Come Along

My training loop yesterday went past 3 different breweries (I swear to the flying spaghetti monster I didn't know they were there!).
Rebellion, Thame and Chiltern. I have a feeling I saw another one but can't remember it.
I've been thinking of doing a ride out to them to actually try their product as opposed to downing a Powergel when I cruise past. Of course, I don't do organised rides so I'm just floating the idea really.
Might have been Vale Brewery?

I started working out a route that would start at Meantime and end at Fullers but life then got in the way.
Now i'm not sure of the sanity in riding back from chiswick pissed, armed with a crate from the factory shop

At least that would be in London.. mine would require quite a long ride. I suppose if you behaved (that's me out) the riding would wear off the booze.

Black Isle Heather Honey Ale, available now in the Jolly Butchers, lovely golden ale, strong honey taste, 5%

4 pack 330ml cans of brew dog ipa available in sainsburys.
seems odd to buy cans of real beer even odder to drink good beer out of a can.
didn't pour it into a glass, felt dirty and ashamed. -

^Brewdog's FHM style of marketing puts me off drinking their beer. Was it any good?
Was in the Penbury last night. My head hurts.

Brewdog's beer is excellent. I highly recommend giving their stuff a try. But I agree the branding is very annoying.

branding is a bit shit, harks a bit too much of trying to emulate the American independent stuff (Rogue etc) but some of their stuff is great. I was drinking the Trashy Blonde in the EDT on Friday. Great stuff, almost fruity. The Hardcore IPA is dangerously drinkable.

Was at The Craft Beer Co. last night, ale is good although it is a bit too poncey for it's own good...
Their own Pale ale was very nice

anyone here know if any old garden hops can be used for brewing? mine is producing plenty but they don't smell owt like the challenger hops a mate brought round to compare against... infact almost odourless by comparison. he'd hoped to harvest and use but now we ain't so sure...

^ tough question?
another one, thinking of a few days in Belgium Lambic hunting with the Gf.... stick to Brussels or head further afield?
-
• #723
if you got a few days i'd do both. Brussels' nice but I think a day or two is enough to see most of it
-
• #724
Yeah, I did Brussels a couple of times before, couple days defo plenty. Have hazy memories of a 'number dating party' at a youth hostel, strange place.
Wondering if there's a Belgian Lambic mecca we should head for...

What's the worst that can happen? You get some rather unhoppy ale?
I live in Chiswick - they're a Fullers every 40 yards - unescapable - like a beer-starbucks.
Saying that - Pride is fine and I really like Seafarers - its the one guest beer they have on occasionally - maybe they make it, not sure, don't think so....session strength too.
Doombar used to be great find always chuffed to find it - Wandle too - but now they're everywhere!! #hateitwhenthingsilikegetpopular
