Yeah, used to go to them quite often, especially when their City branch was open. It's spendy but decent.

A bit controversial this week, it like the old “is it a sport” argument.
You should give the Charles Wells Banana Bread Beer a try too.
-
• #6632
I like their banana bread beer, but I hold an irrational grudge against Wells for the closing of Young's;* I had many a happy pint in the brewery tap of the Ram Brewery when I was an engineering student, as for one year we were using temporary workshops just round the corner. #csb
* because the blame was mostly down to the Young's shareholders.

We didn't want to be too controversial - hope it doesn't read like we're poking the hornet's nest unnecessarily?

I should've quizzed this thread for everyone's opinion, actually.

Anyone else had issues from belgiuminabox? Didn't receive a dispatch notification, got an email form them today saying delivery got refused and click a link to redeliver within 5 days, contacted DPD and it's already being returned to sender. Pretty shitty service all round.

Picked up Ramboozle, Wine aged 'ace of spades', 2017 Brooklyn Chocolate and that St Bernadus 12 folks were bigging up a few pages back. Christmas drinking looking good.

Belgiuminabox Christmas beers have just turned up at my parent's house.. Can't wait. Corked ones are sours.
-
• #6638
Never had an issue, looks like problem is DPD
-
• #6639
No problems here either, all communication was as expected from belgiuminabox and dpd.
-
• #6640
Dpd have been an absolute joke, the woman at dpd just said this is what happens with the Dagenham as they're the worst depot in the company. Going to have to sort something else out for Christmas beers.

Popped into Hawkes Cider tap room in Bermondsey. Lovely cosy place, cheese boards, pizza and delicious cider. Will chug apple booze juice again.

Was delicious. Is Wesveleterereren so much better as to hunt down?

Nope, don't bother. Not worth the premium price. The westie was actually contract brewed at St Bernadus until 92 when the Trappist regulations came in meaning it had to be brewed back at the monastery. They use different yeast and water but there's not much difference to demand the higher price in my opinion.

Westvleteren is tasty but not IMO any more so than other Trappists; the cult status seems to be a scarcity thing. Though I was pleased when my dad the vicar came back from a retreat he'd had at 'some Belgian monastery, where they brewed their own beer' (apparently it's served at mealtimes!), and he'd brought back a case - was I interested in any of this Westvleteren stuff?

Thanks (& @Kat_Balou likewise). I'll stick with Bernard at £4 plus try the range of others stocked. If Westv. opportunity ever crops up I'll try it but won't put effort into getting hold.
Rode past there the other day, is it any good?
