  • After talking about the lack of bottle shops in North London I discovered a Mother Kelly's bottle shop in Stoke newington at the weekend. Seemed a decent range and had a cold room. Picked up a bloody ell and a few others.

Also went to Wildcard and Pillars breweries in walthamstow.

Pillars was ok but nothing too exciting, 4 different lagers but the ones I tried didn't make much of an impact. Nice bar though.

Wildcard had a bit of a queue for the bar, probably because they weren't serving anything that was up on the blackboard and the music was too loud to hear what they did have so left after a quick drink.

  • This is is ride I did with a few of the Newham Cyclists late last year, quite doable in an afternoon at a relaxed pace on canal paths and back roads

    • Truman’s Brewery Saturday Taproom
    • Crate Brewery
    • Howling Hops Brewery
    • Peoples Park Tavern
    • Redchurch Brewery
    • Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club / Three Sods Brewery
    • The White Hart / One Mile End Brewery
    • The Cock Brewpub - Truman’s / Howling Hops
    • Beavertown Brewery
    • Pillars Brewery
    • Wild Card Brewery
    • Tap East Brewery

We stopped at a few for a cheeky half, my favourites were Howling Hops - really interesting selection, Redchurch - lovely use of the space and Beavertown is just a great place to visit.

You can pick up take-aways at nearly all of these places.

  • Brewdog Elvis Juice. No no no no no.

  • To Øl goodness. Sours 4 lyf.

  • ^ Damn right.

  • It's amazing, what are you on about?! Haha

  • if you can get your hands on it, try this

  • Ooo I love their beer Embrasse. Not seen that one.

  • it's a non-barrel aged stout but so full of flavour you'd think it was

    Embrasse

    and

    Noblesse
    Noblesse XO
    Extase
    Crime Passionel
    Finesse
    Belle Fleur

and then some, plus specials, they're really all quite worthwile. Brewery is close to Flanders too. In fact, it is in Flanders, but in The Netherlands. How?

  • Guinness Antwerpen, who knew?

  • And Tesco are now doing Westmalle Double and Chimay blue for home delivery

  • Normally love their beers, but Ashinaga Tenaga from Pressure Drop is not good, completely flat with no head and the flavours don't work at all.

  • Roosters Fort Smith is marvellous.

Also anything by Renaissance Brewing Company. Their Imperial was lush.

    An Ahopcolypse® if you will...

  • Bottleshop SE1 Omnipollo Imperial Stout Madness this Friday.
