Ale, Beer, Stout appreciation

  • I paid 10 Euros per bottle for a few in Brugges last week, saw it being sold for as much as 15 Euros in some shops

  • There were a couple of Belgian guys paying 25 euros for it in a bar. They were adamant you couldn't buy it in a shop. They obviously haven't looked hard enough.

  • Seems to be all over the place now. So much for only being available from the abbey.

  • Wow, 13 seems almost reasonable now.

  • I brought back nearly 40 beers on the Eurostar last week, I had a mad panic when we left our apartment as I hadn't checked the allowances until we were headed for check in, which it turns out is officially 12 bottles per person! Happily no-one seemed to care.

  • I was too hungover to get the beers I'd planned to. I had two I'd bought from a Nacht winkel the night before and not drunk but I hated the thought of more beer this morning.

  • I spent most of the time we were there diverting us to shops I could buy beer in. Didn't get too pissed while we were there somehow.

  • I just had two pretty big days there - 1 at the six day and yesterday I started at 12 in the Waterhuis and finished drinking at 3 or 4 or something in the Trollenkeller. Pretty caned. Think I might quit the booze for a while.

  • Likewise, I am keen to keep my fitness up this winter last year I was miles from fitness in January!

  • New ones tried in Ghent...
Tongerlo Blond - Brouwerij Haacht Brasserie
Tongerlo Bruin - Brouwerij Haacht Brasserie
Klokke Roeland - Brouwerij Van Steenberge
Wieze Tripel Blond - Brouwerij Wieze
Piraat Triple Hop - Brouwerij Van Steenberge
Ter Dolen Donker - Kasteelbrouwerij De Dool
    N'Ice Chouffe - Brasserie d'Achouffe
Arthur's Legacy - Belle Hélène - Brouwerij De Hoorn
Troubadour Imperial Stout - Brouwerij The Musketeers (De Musketiers)
    Rebel Local - Brouwers Verzet
Saison Dupont Cuvée Dry Hopping (2015) - Brasserie Dupont
Trappist Westvleteren 8 - Brouwerij De Sint-Sixtusabdij van Westvleteren
Trappist Westvleteren 12 - Brouwerij De Sint-Sixtusabdij van Westvleteren

  • mmm need to get some Troubadour Imperial Stout

  • I was pretty fucked by the time I consumed it but it was definitely one of the standouts. I will be hunting some down for a proper tasting.

  • I loved Ter Dolen Donker, one of the best beers I had in Belgium.

  • Anyone going to the London Brewers Market in Spitalfields this Saturday?

  • Sadly I am away visiting family this weekend

  • I've not been before, looking forward to it

Fancied a nice easy going beer tonight. My fridge is inappropriate.

  • ^ Heavy Water sounds interesting!

    Cloudwater Porter is good btw.

  • Think I might quit the booze for a while.

    I lol'd.

  • Heavy Water is my favourite Beavertown beer, shame it's so hard to get hold off.

Now to seek out the Cloudwater Porter.

  • It lasted a day.

    I think.

  • I may go down, but planning on going out on the Friday before, so will need to see.

  • Organised a little beer tasting session after work yesterday. 23 bottles sampled and ranked across vague and changing criteria... Staffs Brewery's Rockin Robin was the clear loser and I finally found someone else who's been unimpressed by all the Cloudwater beers they've tried!

  • Had a bottle of Sierra Nevada's Porter last night at my local 'spoons, it was tasty but I wish they would use 50"cl" bottles.

  • Try the Anchor Porter there too.

  • I like Anchor stuff, generally. #csb
