  • Just had a couple of Montieths Black Beer last night - and it surprised me as I am not normally a fan of darker beers but it was sweet and tasty. Would drink again happily.

  • I like hook norton beer, when I worked in a pub we had some of their old hooky in, it was some of the best beer I've ever had, used to recommend the others we had in so I could have it to myself at lunch and after work. It's never quite as good bottled though, seems a little more carbonated.

Montieths is one of the better NZ beers. We do many things well, but (up until recently) beer was not one of them. If you get a chance give Moa a chance - now with beer for breakfast.

  • Anyone know if there is anywhere in London I can buy ale in plastic bottles?

  • Trollin'?

  • No mate, I'm going to a festival and they wont allow glass bottles in.

  • Giant bottles of cider?

  • Tins/cans?

  • Tin cans?

  • I will be taking cans with me but i fancied some nice ales as well. I
have found somewhere near reading that does 2ltr plastic bottles of their ales but they wont deliver to London. I'll stick with cans then.

  • I'd avoid Reading.

  • Don't some places sell ales in something closer to a box of wine? Pretty sure I've seen it before, but I'd have no clue where to go looking for it.

  • I have seen it once about 10 years ago, went round a mate's house and his dad had a box of Ridley's ale. It was good. We drank a lot of it. His dad was not impressed when I passed out in their utility room in one of the cat beds with a cat sitting on top of me. Thankfully, not everyone had a phone with a camera in those days.

  • Went to this pub for the first time on Saturday:

Good selection of interesting ales/ciders, friendly staff, big garden, nice food. Cheap too. Win.

  • For Easters the Cock Tavern on Mare St near Hackney Central has just been converted from horrible dive to what looks like an amazing ale house with maybe 20 pumps of real ale and proper cider from around britain some of which looked great and prices where pretty cheap (£3.30 -£3.90 a pint).

Was not in a position to sample any today alas but it could be a good addition to the generally rubbish Hackney ale scene.

  • If anyone is at the GBBF tomorrow, come by and say hi. I will be the one in shorts and a hat with a bit of a belly.

I rather suspect you will not be the only one matching that description.....

Try these guys its in Marlow so it isn't quite London but they are a small brewery and can be quite accommodating, so they might deliver.

  • Visited The Kernel brewery on Friday after work
    http://thekernelbrewery.com/
They are next door to my work. They offered to give us all a tour of the brewery on one of their brewing days (Tuesdays). They all ride bikes. One brewer is 'on here'...and the smell of brewing is amazing.
Tried a bottle of their IPA double sscans at 10.1%

    Amazing stuff!

  • went to GBBF, appalled by hypocritical behavior by CAMRA; I asked why Brew Dog is not allowed? The old bearded guy from CAMRA told me if its a British brewery it has to be a 'Real' ale (whatever that means)!

So spent my time between the Belgian and American beers, didn't drink ANYTHING British on principle.

  • Your loss mate. Why get your knickers in a twist about them? All marketing strategy and gimmicky beers if you ask me.

  • this

  • although an afternoon on the belgians doesn't sound too bad

forum ride to a belgian beer festival in belgium ?

  • Sounds good, especially the ride back.
