Raytard, at least I had a genuine excuse in 08. You had both collar bones in tact and still didn't do it.

I see nimhbus has plenty to say, despite never having done the ride in question.

i'm going to ride it fixed... only option I have right now. Shouldn't be to painful fixed should it?
only on your arse if you have an uncomfortable saddle!
(or if you choose a very low gear and try to keep up with gearies on the downhills)

not this year, it clashes with track.
What track race is on then?

nothing big, but I'm not going to be doing the DD right between two league races and training sessions.
not saying I can't change my mind though!

I've just discovered I'll be out of the country swanning about in the south of france that weekend, otherwise I'd be on this like white on rice.
But enjoy it. Hoping th eforum puts up a good showing this year, lets try and get the numbers upto 50+.
Damo, I'd never done the dynamo before, and was slightly nervous about my ability to last the course, which is why I did it geared, but my training consisted of going on pretty much every long ride before so southend, brighton, cambridge, oxford, as well as continuing with the commute, and I was fine. Just ride at your own pace and don't go trying to race with the fast boys and you'll get there tired but euphoric..

Think i'll be on this again this year, and fancy a bit of riding back action to if anyone else fancies giving it a go..

It was great last year. The year before was horrible :) I'd probably do it again and ride part of the way back (don't know about all of it bmmf - 300k - I was pretty sore/tired).
I've got to get myself ready somehow for (hopefully) 400k in the 12hr...

I'd like to give this a go.... something to train for.
What's the expected departure/arrival times? Are there any long rides planned that I can join between now and July?

- an awful lot.
We had a section last year (still sounds wrong saying that) where we were banging along at 22-23mph in a massive train with loads of geared riders. Completely screwed me up until we got to the feed station at half way. Left later than the majority of other forum members, but arrived on the beach third (by a wheel). This excludes Roberto who was suited up for a track session and went on his own.
Decent navigation FTW!
BTW I can highly recommend the ride back to Ipswich. It's as flat as a pancake....

You're really selling it to me, Sam.

How could I not..
Going from London (my home now) to the Suffolk coast (where I grew up)..
Did it last year for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed myself!

After reading the buzz about this last year, seeing the pics on here, I am definitely up for it this year. Probably going to do it fixed, need to HTFU for any long downhill stretches which still freak me out a bit.
Brake before your speed gets out of control. Easy.

i would like.
training? what do i need to do?What is your longest ride at the moment?
Do one long ride a week + your other riding
Ride 50k on a Sat/Sunday.
On the next weekend ride 60k
The next weekend ride 70k
Then ride 50k
Then ride 70k
Then 80k
Then 90k
Then 60k
Then 80k
etcBasically you want to see how far you can ride comfortably and then start doing that once a week, adding a little bit of distance each week as you get closer to the DD.
Each 4 weeks have a shorter ride. You will need to take food and proper clothing (cycling shorts baby! lycra up!), lights if you are doing night rides.
It doesn't have to be so structure though.. just keep trying to extend your long rides.
You will tweak your bike setup the further you go, since people don't notice subtle bike fit issues if they're only riding short distances.. once you start riding 80-100-150k you start to notice things hurting.. :)10% dictates you don't increase you total mileage in a week by more than 10% and you don't increase your Long ride distance by more than 10%
go on then.
