I think most people who've actually met Dean (I talked to him briefly at TrixieDix once) thought he was alright--he just had a particularly unfortunate way of shooting himself in the foot on this forum. I think the comment about 'hiding behind computers' is pertinent and shows that he just has/had a hard time coming to terms with this kind of 'communication'. Not a massive flaw in my book.
Then a strange mixture of overcompensating for an evident inferiority complex and quickly flying off the handle just led to him revealing vulnerability, which people jumped on. I have to say that much as in forum logic he deserved some of it, I thought some of it was not nice in real world logic.
That said, he has produced some enduring classic forum 'memes'--literally, 'me mes'.
It should also be said that he has excellent bike skills (which I don't think anyone doubted, but I thought I'd say it anyway) and I'm sure he's got a lot going for him--just that he tried to boast too much shouldn't obscure that.

i think 'forum faggot' is on the money. it has just the right amount of subversive irony fused with the kind of obscene language that kids just love! it also references the earlier controversy regarding the homophobic comments made.
