just checked on this, my mate who studies latin at uni says the correct way to write it is:

malum maximum, opprobrium minimum

I been thinking about the latib bit, and I think we should levae the "Maximun damage, mininal scandal" whatever it is latain or not, or whatever is right or not. It is what everybody knows, and was the original joke. I don't feel much for "malum maximum, opprobrium minimum" as it is something completly new to me and without much feeling/history behind it.
