I have DT swiss RR 1.1's
Can recommend they have been great.
Ive really abused the rear, (even took off the powder coat) its kept a good high tension since build and doesnt show any fatigue signs like my friends Rigida's. Plus they are much stiffer than any of my Mavics although I dont have anything like an open pro for comparing.
Oh my god! You lot make me lauph. (renting holes... half a hole..!)
Anodising: dipping in acid bath while passing electric current through it.
The effect is to etch the surface somewhat. The dyes in the acid solution 'key' into the etched surface. Very pretty but...
talk to an engineer about crack propagation and fatigue life and they'll recommend that smoother surface finish contributes to longevity...
NB brittleness is lack of ductility... a metalurgical property... is that gonna be affected by anodising?
Speaking of holes.... whats the diffinitive answer: trying to lace a 16 hole rim onto a 32 hole hub ?
