It's pretty academic at the moment for me anyhow as I'm broke.

So far I've got a rigid carbon fork, sized for a 29r.
So I'm commited.
Its all about the commitment ;) -

96er? ;) The compromise.
Good article. I'll carry on dreaming for a bit.

does anyone make a rigid ss 26er?
or should I look for a used bike from the early 90s and convert it to ss?

Loads. I like the look of the charge and the genesis personally.

miro_o - look at on-one. Although brant seems to be fixated with 29" and is possibly letting the 26" side of stock slip.
alex - looks quite damn nice, the price sounds good. But I'm not in the market so it's irrelevant. And a minor detail , looks like an integrated headset so that would probably stop me buying it, thats not in your power to change though.

Buy/find a frame and build it up with carbon forks from here
http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=38&products_id=101
or
http://www.carboncycles.co.uk/?s=0&t=0&c=43&p=197I think Gabes and Object have used the latter.
I've got an old orange that will be SS as soon as funds allow.

Thanks.
The GT peace seems good value. The whole point of this bike is cheap, simple, muddy fun.
I take it the chain tension is adjusted via a concentric bb?

I've got those Superstar forks. They look and feel great, but I havent tried them yet as I have no frame :(Frames here
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread11107.htmlBTW I looked into 26" wheel frames (if that makes sense), and Dialled love/hate was by far my fav in the UK. Out of stock at the mo, but I think they're be doing a 2009 version at some point

i know mike who owns dialled bikes and there will at some point be another batch of love/hates this year, possibly with upspecced reynolds tubing.

Anyone who's looking at 29ers should consider Singular - I've got one and it looks great and rides great!

So, at Cavendish we're possibly going to get a couple of these...
But, before we actually get any i just wanted to see if it's the sort of thing people might be interested in. I've always had a soft spot for SS MTBs, and it seems i'm not the only one on here.
Made from chromoly, super stiff and disc only, with an eccentric BB for chain tension, meaning you don't have all the hassle of setting up a disc with horizontal dropouts; an absolute nightmare.
Price is around £300 i think, and is available in 16", 18" & 20"
Oh, and an 853 version is in the pipeline, but i'm unsure of price...their regular 853 MTB frame is around £400-450. Let me know what you think.
I was in Chelmer cycles yesterday they had one hanging on the wall, very nice finish but felt quite heavy. Maybe it was just me having a weak day.

Surely someone makes a shitty, cheap OTP ss mtb that's rigid. Or am I going to have to build another bike?

Lots of people on off-road/SS forums swear by them.

Those Kris Holm ones look bolt hard.
I just ordered a set of these Mavics in 36h:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=23208
Substantially lighter but probably more foldable too!

I'm always paranoid about rear wheels. I am by no means a hardcore rider but I have a talent for banging up rear wheels given enough time to become comfortable with the bike. I'm just not very smooth!
If my project ever gets off the ground. I would go for a lighter front rim.

Oh aye, Sun and Halo both make some pretty decent-looking ones, but I was dissuaded from them by the mechanic in our shop, who just kept on repeating 'MAVICMAVICMAVIC...' at me.

The Sun Ringle EQ27 look good and you can get them from CRC (25mm bead width, eyeleted, 560g ish).
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=33955I'm desperatly trying to track down some Velocity Blunts, they are light, strong, and have a wide bead width (26mm). Seem to be available in the US only as far as I can see.
http://www.velocityusa.com/default.asp?contentID=626Want the bead width for some 2.4" racing ralphs.

I have always had a soft spot for Soulcraft frames.
And don't forget Burls, this 29er "just looks right".
