Anyone else with mechanical 8000-series Shimano have the left shifter stop working properly? It won't shift down to the little ring reliably on both the cable shifter I have on the road bike, or the hydro one I have on the CX bike.
It feels like it's not engaging properly, shifting down has little resistance. Will investigate inside the shifter today, just seemed weird that both have stopped working.

Loose or frayed cables?

Could it be cold related? I found my nicely indexed (at a comfy 20C indoor temp) went completely nuts yesterday with the -10C real feel, to the point where the additional tension (due to thermal contraction) would prevent the RD to shift into the last 3 cogs. Probably matters more for a RD with slightly longer cable.
Or could it be the BB cable guide? Some of the plastic ones have long flexible parts that make it difficult to get the tension right for the FD, for example the trim on my 7000 is always slghtly off because of this.

Sounds like the cable is stuck or grabbing. Disengage from the derailleur and try it by hand, if there's a lot of friction that's the issue.

Cheers for the suggestions, I'm going to recable the CX bike today (hydro) & have a play with the various suggestions. It wouldn't be the first time I've had an issue with this shifter.
The road bike (cable) problem is a little bit tougher to diagnose as the cable run is fully housed (Nokon).

On investigation, I think the issue on the CX bike might be that the little plate which sits on the bottom of the shifter which you can unscrew & remove to access the internals had snapped. As it was no longer held in place properly by the screw, the broken section had drifted forward & up a bit & was perhaps interferring with the mechanism. Fingers crossed that taping that on will solve it, will look into the road bike issue another time (it's not quite as bad on that one).

this pls

I would guess they go on the shifters, under the hoods and the gear cables would be installed through the holes, very much a guess though.

😂

Apparently they make the reach on the brake levers shorter, which is something I don't think I'll need.

Ah, like the bits of rubber you used to get with Shimano.

• #7991
This is also very much the good shit.

Sorry to correct but the shims fit inbetween the lever body and handlebar to move levers further away for larger hands ..

Hah! Well, the original owner of the groupset is the one that advised me, sounds like he didn't RTFM. Maybe I will need them after all.

The brake shoes were fitted the wrong way round, maybe that was A Sign.

My elderly 6700 FD and RD both started playing up probably after being left dirty and pretty much unridden since Festive 500.
FD gummed up so bad it did’t move even with cable detached but new cable and flooding with cleaner sorted it. Both RD pivots also gummed up and not moving freely leaving chain slack and sagging. Might be a candidate for a full dismantling and a deep clean but Plusgas got it moving again.

You cannt do that with di2 shnizz.
I have pulled a few rear gears apart and managed to clean and re-tension. -

Ok, cranks - the bearings are new, the cranks are not. I bought new BB cups.
It's an English BB, I fitted the cups and torqued them up to ~35Nm.
Fitted the crank, wave washer on the left, 50Nm and I used a little thread locker on the bolt.
They really don't want to spin - if I spin them the most I get is two rotations, and there's a faint squeak every now and again. Is this just the bearings and the seals need to break in, or is something wrong?

• #7998
Is the wave washer fully compressed? What system is this? Unless there's something wrong about the spacing will be a case of just bedding it in.

• #7999
What frame?

• #8000
It’s a Serotta CSI frame, and I can’t see the wave washer as it’s inside the left hand cup.
Some stockists over here in the U.S. are stating:
'Expected release date is 1st Apr 2021' for Centaur groups, whereas something like Potenza which has been discontinued says: 'Out of stock'.
