11 speed mountain bike cassette (from 11-34t to above) doesn't required a 11 speed hubs as the biggest sprocket is attached to the 2nd biggest one to put it simply.

if I am going that way I might just go 1x
The biggest problem is whether there's enough room underneath the braze on to be able to clear the 46t chainring.
The is a possibility a clamp on front derailleur could clear it, but cannot guarantee it.
Option;
1 - Remove braze-on.
2 - Narrow/wide chainring with a bigger cassette.
3 - 48/32t chainring with a slightly wider range cassette.No. 3 is the best bet, most road frame have 52-50t chainring in mind, so not all will be able to go low enough for a 46t chainring.

handy! I am going to try the band on approach first, the rest other than 1x is just effort

Might be worth checking if the braze on slot has any scope for filing it down. Sometimes you can gain a few mm that way. Also I gather there is a particular sram FD that hangs lower than others/Shimano..

That look awesome until I checked the price; £47!

Given how much of a gap between the derailleur and chainring, it need a lots more than a couple millimetres to reach it!

Agreed, it’s never gonna work well but you might be able to get it close enough to at least shift. I managed to get a 44t close enough to shift when there was no option for a band-on due to seat tube shape.

Would NX will be the same? Even more incompatible with other speeds.
-
• #7037
Jeepers! You could probably make your own easily enough
-
• #7038
Pretty sure the NX cassette fits on a regular splined hub. The rest of the Eagle range requires an XD driver.

Yep, turns out it is. My bad!

with that pricing, SRAM is dead to me

• #7043
The new SRAM force crankset is incredibly ugly. Who designed that? Also, pricing
-
• #7044
48t is the biggest chainring they're doing for it apparently
Edit: 46/33 or 48/35 for double

my 9 speed sora bike has better gear range

Cassette sizes:
10-26t, 10-28t, 10-33t
-
• #7047
With all that power you won't need a bigger range.

With a 10t sprocket, no point going bigger TBH.

which brings me to this question; has SRAM failed at tricking down? Mainly the price. Having seen the videos it seems like the only compromise is in some materials. Shimano does that between DA and Ultegra and it makes it half price. Why cant Sram do it?

Who says they want to? Given how long it's been since eTap was released, they are clearly making enough money on it not to feel the need to trickle down.
