Cheers, I knew about the BETD. Anyway, I had a very pleasant conversation with Paul today, I think he might be the owner, not sure. The don't have any 165mm of anything at the moment, but they are about to start production again and will have limited stock in 165mm of their RS7/RS8 X Type in black in a couple of months time. But if I wanted silver, he could just polish a silver one up for me.
Their RS8 has been saying "BUY ME! BUY ME! BUY ME NOW!" all afternoon! And my mind is very weak at the moment.

Shall I just go all SRAM for matchy matchy sake?
The main reason why I don't like SRAM is I have SRAM on my road bike and I absolutely cannot get on with the double tap system... obviously with flatbar there isn't that issue? Any 'downside' of SRAM in terms of shifting?

Look for a Shimano ZEE M640 which take a normal 4 bolt 104BCD chainring and then fit a Superstar narrow/wide 40t chainring? they come in 165mm as well.

Can Sram it if you want, I really like the doubletap apex on my bike, shifts perfectly (at the back) everytime and I don't like the brake lever moving on shimano, but both work fine and are more of a preference thing. I've always preferred shimano mtb shifters though. Main area shimano wins is brakes, some people seem to like sram/avid brakes but I've only ever had bad experiences and heard bad things from a lot of people.
So get a sram drivechain and hope brakes, obviously. -

You could also get the XT groupset and a wheel/hub with a sram XD driver and a cassette with a 10t smallest cog, meaning the rings that come with the cranks we give you the gearing you want. I've not seen shimano derailleurs on an XD cassette IRL but can't see why it wouldn't work and a quick Google shows people doing it.

SRAM has a slightly heavier lever action, but tbh I think that's an advantage mountain biking. I had a Saint 10sp with Zee mech, which is about as nice-feeling as Shimano gets, and it was still ugly as sin and I ended up double-shifting a lot by accident. Now have 10sp X0. If I was buying new, I'd get GX Eagle and some sexier cranks.
Just go to a decent bike shop and have a play on some properly setup bikes.

Why do you need a clutch on a road bike?
Or is it for all the 1x weirdos?

Levers are a lot nicer looking than 5800 that's for sure.

Sram force 1 appears to have took a huge chunk of th CX market, ultegra di2 1x or 2x should take some of that back.

Shimano clutch works with double chainsets where SRAM doesn't either.

So is it goodbye at last to the FC-7803 triple? There must be a few million more miles on it yet
-

I have a SRAM clutch mech working with a double; some work fine. But you're right that the mechs designed specifically for 1x don't.

Just read that you can use 11sp R7000 cassette on a 10sp wheel. How does that work? I thought the 11sp spacing between cogs was narrower than 10sp. Does that mean Dura-ace R9000/9100 and Ultegra R8000 aren't going to be compatible with R7000?
-
• #6349
Only the The 11-34 is the same as current Mtb 11 speed cassettes as they are compatible with 10 speed fteehub,There's some kind of offset used.
I think r8000 11-34 is the same. -

Anyone got any good solutions to the new 105 lacking a 46/30 crankset option?
I can see
- Get a separate crank (PiTA)
- Absoluteblack overpriced subcompact chainrings
- Get a separate crank (PiTA)
You're welcome
