If you can afford, get di2.
If not then mechanical is good. Just get someone who knows how to set it up to do so. Then shifting will be perfect. -

6800

• #5604
Unless you're building a weight weenie bike, I'd just stick with 105 and get 5800 if you want to go 11spd.

4700/5800 or 6870
4700 means you stay 10 speed and wont have to change wheels.
-
• #5606
Ah yes, but already planning to buy new wheels.... HED Ardennes ftw.
-
• #5607
you'd struggle to find diff between 6800 and 5800 .. 6870 if you can afford.

I couldn't really tell the difference in operation between 5800 105 and 9000 Dura-Ace.
I think if I wanted something 'better' than 105, I'd go Di2

Sticking to the topic of DA bling:

• #5610
"Other features include automatic shifting for pre determined cadence and power outputs."
I seem to remember a gizmo launched last year that did this: queue much grumbling about automatic gearboxes and not being proper cycling...

Sorry SRAM I can't hear you, what were you saying again?
-
• #5612
The semi synchro mode seems like a neat solution, automatically dropping to smaller cogs on the back when you shift the front, so you don't have to manually do it yourself.
-
• #5613
This feature was already present on Campagnolo EPS v3 groupsets.
-
• #5614
Just like the old 9070 shifters in that respect then?
-
• #5615
You needed some accessory thing though. So no, not just like them.
-
• #5616
So they've integrated D-Fly into the shifters? Still struggling to see how that constitutes news justifying an entire article. Hey ho.
-
• #5617
I assume it's probably got something to do with monies.

anyone know what the max capacity of a short cage DA9000 mech is? 50/34 front. Shimano say 28t, but they always lowball this stuff.
-
• #5620
You won't get a 30 in there and there is no Shimano 29
-
• #5621
34x32? Happy
40th50th! -
• #5622
not even with the b screw dialed in? You can get a 32 into the 10 speed stuff

Thinking of selling my Campy Athena 11s (carbon ultra torque version) groupset and changing to Shimano on my canti-CX bike.
Does anyone have an idea of what a typical resale value these campy groupsets is in good condition?
I'm wondering so I can have an idea of which Shimano groupset to go for.

Go on to eBay, go to the 'Advanced Search' page and click on the sold option, then search for Athena components.
Ok, useful advice; thanks.
Looks like 6800 then.
