But then who would buy tiagra?
105, Ultegra and Dura-Ace are all 11 speed. Surely likewise there is still a difference between Sora and Tiagra apart from the extra cog on the cassette?

An extra click in the shifter.

I recently moved to mac from pc. So dont actually have any way of adjusting my Di2. So the idea of being able to adjust from my phone is interesting.
But do I need that bar end Junction Box? Wont work With my ENVE bars, as the have penis ends.
Surely owning a macbook, and ENVE bars confirms my buyer status. Why would Shimano want to alienate the buyers :(

I've already drilled a big hole in my ENVE bars for internal cable Routing. I'd be willing to get the drill out again. But I like my penis ends.

There is, different material use in the shifters mechanism, like the difference in shifting between 105 and Ultegra.
Only problem is that the cable pull will be different, gonna put the new Sora derailleur on the new Tiagra to see if there's any difference.

Still 9 speed? Is it so much more expensive to make a 10/11 speed groupset, even for Shimano at this point?
Different price points for OEM groupsets on new bikes I'd imagine.

That was my question: would making Sora 10/11 speed make it that much more expensive for Shimano and therefor the customer?
-
• #5409
Not for shimano but they need to fill out a range and that gives them an obvious difference to charge less for sora and more importantly, more for the others.

Takes about 5mins to 'acquire' Windows and VMware Fusion

I'm trying to work out how to overlap the trainerroad bar on a fullscreen youtube Clip.
baby steps.

Pricing with groupsets has never really fitted with actual cost, it's mostly about perceived value and branding.
I'd imagine the profit margin on Dura Ace is significantly higher than the profit margin for Sora.

Let me know. Have failed with this on the Mac so far. Had to run two laptops like some sort of caveman.

I had my eye on that barend box but am in the same boat. Was assuming I'd be able to cut the bellend off the bars without causing too much of a problem but it does seem a bit rash.

Someone on slow twitch is saying maximise youtube then open trainerroad in horizontal. Which is how you would do it in Windows. So I dont think they read the original question correctly (fucking bike forums).
Last night I just ran youtube in cinema mode and trainerroad in horizontal. Wasnt too bad.

Well my bars have zero resell value now anyway. But as my Junction Box is already nicely hidden in my stem. Its kinda hard to justify.

Need gearing recommendations.
Planning a build which'll be used for long distance touring and probably some off-road/gravel/fireroad stuff.
Compact with a 32t or 34t at the back sufficient? Will I need a particular derailleur for that?
Looking at a 105 groupset at the moment.

• #5418
34x32 lowest gear could be ok .. obviously depends on terrain and luggage and your fitness.
For 105 you just need a mid cage and an 11-32 cassette will work.

44t up front With 11-42 at the back?

Was this posted already? T8000 touring group

1x set up? What are shimano/SRAM's (or others?) offerings like for that vs a 105 setup like @amey posted
Looking at the gear inches of each set up, looks like I'd be fine going up stuff... bit of a difference from downhills/cruising. A compact offers 122.9 GI over a 108 GI that @Smallfurry 's suggestion.
Hm.

Take M8000, go back to 78x symettrical crank spider
Add plastic trouser guard
Add OTP Dynamo with an XT sticker
Remove clutch from RD
Call it T8000

Sram do 1x from apex all the way up to 12 speed eagle xx1. Choose Your Budget.
There'll be gaps though. A more old School 48/34 up front With 11-40 out the back might be better for loaded road use. Again Sram is the easiest way of doing this. You can run either wifi Apex or a MTB rear mech I think.

Add plastic trouser guard
Those trouser guards are a real lifesaver on tour..

So after doing some reading on the new Terminator 8000 groupset Shimano have made some interesting choices:
- 10 speed cassette
- No clutch
- QR + centrelock dynamo...with no TA option
- Updated crank arm with old triple spider
- Longer brake lever
- No drop bar options...means people have to stick with MicroShift
Looks like it's more suited to flat bar road/gravel bikes rather than full blown bikepacking/expedition bikes.
This would be a crazy groupset to spec for something like riding from London to China via Indonesia or something. This is built for bulletproof parts interchangeability.
- 10 speed cassette
