Disc brakes, and their associated fancy new levers, and massive rear cassettes.
Don't get me wrong, it's all interesting stuff, I just can't see it being much use for top level racers this is intended for. -

They obviously make far more money out of certified buyers like me tho that are way too lazy/fat for racing, but want the fancy pants gear anyway.

Also just thought it will all be very appealing to the CX crowd I guess?.... (Especially the ones that can afford to replace a very expensive busted mech every weekend)

Most pro teams have a set of separate ultegra di2 long cage rds for when the riders want larger than a 28 so the demand is definitely there. Maybe not so much of a need for your average crit racer mind you.

Trickle down r&d also. 9000 is the reason 5800, 4700 and the new 3000 sora is great.
Chain set they said will work with old stuff, let's see when more details emerge.

Will the crankset fit into a bb30 frame? In which case I'd consider getting the cranks and swapping them from commuter to road bike as and when required.

I just can't see it being much use for top level racers this is intended for.
It's not uncommon, even the pro have a big range in the Giro
Sky have a standard 11-28 because it work for all scenario, no need to constantly swap cassette round for certain stages.
11-30 sound like it'll keep a similar jump between each cassette while having a decent lower gear for some of the climb.

Those same pros were using MTB rear deraillers to give them low enough gears to race up Zoncolan and similar in the Giro.
Disc brakes I'm still not sure about. I currently hate them but that's for other reasons.

I used a DA9000 crankset in a BB30 Shiv with some simple Wheelsmith? adapters.

Or more likely it means dudes can race in the big ring for the whole thing so less risk of dumping a chain with a front shift, especially with stupid oval/wonky chainrings.

No, the ones before this were 17% stiffer than the ones before that which were 19% stiffer.
If you want brakes as effective as noodles, try Campag Deltas.

I reckon it'll be well priced.
And it'll be so much better than ultegra/p2m. Becasue it'll look good.
It'll be worth the £500 more.If shimano release a powermeter, it will do what it says out of the tin and perfectly.
All this new tech is nice, but dumb for a top spec racing groupset IMHO.
I'm much more interested to see if/how any of this new tech is integrated with the new Ultegra Di2... especially the disc related stuff.
