I thought you meant it had to go on the end of the cable entering the shifter.
Yes it does ..

I think my Jagwire set came with those?

Checked with my mechanic at work today, he never bothers with those tongue things, says they are more faff than there worth
-
• #4532
Well if he does you will feel the difference in shifting even with lower end groupsets.
Tbh I take shimano's word as gospel; they generally don't 'recommend' more like tell you what to do to get the best result.
11 speed generation is the only instance where they specifically ask to use that and ship the shifters with it. I think the reason is the way cables exit the shifter. The short tongue cap has a locking mechanism so it doesen't rotate.

This is shimano only right?

I've read that it's possible to run 11 speed cassettes from one vendor, say Shimano, on a shifting system from the other, say Campag.
But has anyone actually done it? If so, did it work okay?
-
• #4535
yep
-
• #4536
To be honest, as long we do it right, it should work indefinitely, it shift just as well with normal cable and housing.
The keys is the skill of the mechanic.

Yeah it's fine.
My turbo has a shimano cassette but used my old TT bike (campag)
I've had wheels with campag cassette and run shimano shifters. Can't tell difference.

I ran a Chorus cassette with 6800- my girlfriend is now running that same combination daily, works fine, I would not hesitate to do it.

Great, thanks all.
I need a new front wheel after yesterday, will probably buy a pair, am waiting for SRAM to shut up and take my money on wireless, so can buy a SRAM/Shimano wheelset now instead of having to swap free hubs around.

My 5800 groupset arrived from Evans looking very OEM. Boxed but not the usual branded packaging. It came with shifting cables already installed and those lil tounged ferrules loose.
Am I missing out on the party?

Is SRAM Force1 available yet?
-
• #4545
So the front and rear derailleur are wired together, but the shifter is wireless?
-
• #4546
Yeah seems that way
-
• #4547
That's a good idea, less batteries to fiddle with.

Good luck early adopters

I think I was just a bit sick in my mouth looking at that.

So Mr Kwiatkowski, how was your first day with the new group?
Thanks.
I have fitted those, but on the exposed ends.
From what you wrote, I thought you meant it had to go on the end of the cable entering the shifter.
