Thanks hippy. I'll bite the bullet and probably combine the 11 speed 6800 with the old DA chainset then

I will be fitting 105 5800 soon and I spoke to a guy who had it on his steel pinarello.
He said that the shifting was quite noisy and rough and he believed it to be because he was using an Italian bb. Does this sound like bollox?
1mm extra on the drive side bb shell shouldn't make that much difference should it?
I am also fitting it to an Italian steel frame (haterz etc) and the bb supplied by merlin was an Ultegra 6800 one not an actual 5800 Italian bb.
Am I just worrying? You should be able to tinker the rear mech to accommodate the slightly longer shell right?
Thanks

Sounds like rubbish; you get way more than +/- 1mm just from setting the high /low limits on the FD.

Yeah that's what I assumed. Cheers

I'd have thought chainline would be the same and the BB cups would take up any difference.

Does this sound like bollox?
Complete and utter.
If not, manufacturers would make specific cranks for ITA and ENG BB.
They don't.

What are my options for mid/compact chainset in 165mm? Ta

Money no issue? Rotor
Value? Shimano 5800165mm road cranks are in fashion so they could pop up on ebay etc.

Turn Zayante

What kind of question is that? Virtually every compact chainset is available in 165mm if you look hard enough. Might as well list them all.

Shimano DA9000

Probably a rather silly question then

Here's a nice chainset comparison

Anyone ridden 5800 against 6800 who can persuade me to buy one or the other? My head is telling me 5800, but 6800 seems more fancy...
-
• #3767
I've ridden both.
The weight saving (the only real difference other than Ultegra's nicer finish) seems to be made on the hollow chainring (which is perhaps more durable too) and the cassette.
I'd say look at the prices of those consumables and decide which you'll be buying in a few months... and you'll know which groupset to go for.

Might be a few sram rival compacts kicking about still. Wiggle had some a few weeks ago.

Shimano.

Kinda crazy weird / odd that Cannondale aren't on SRAM.

Wait till it's Campagnolo.
Also very weird to see Sagan on Specialized for this year.
I've run 54/39 with DA Di2. Can't really see it being that far out of range for the Ultegra stuff. Shift might just be a little slower at the front.
Team? If you're racing, having wheels you can swap quickly makes more sense than any period correct bollocks.
