It was with the HY/RD, I would says it have the same benefit (braking power is near identical), the biggest difference I can feel is that the HY/RD have a tiny less "bite" than a full hydro (may be down to the flexy SRAM S900 levers I was using), and the fact I use organic pads on a loaded touring bicycle, which worn in badly enough to prevent the self aligning system to work effectively.
HY/RD is the best independent* braking system of all disc caliper, the next one up is full hydraulic.
The only drawback with the HY/RD is that a new rotor and pads bring out the best of the system, especially when using Shimano's own rotor and pads instead of TRP which bring up the cost a fair bit.
*I would says cable but that's not strictly accurate.

Is the Di2 version cheaper than mechanical?

R685 is vapourware at the moment...
At the moment, the availability is pushed to December (Madison).

You beauty! Just ordered a pair.

No surprise there, Bike24 seemed to get a lots of stuff earlier than most distro.
Waiting for Madison as I can get those on trade.

I'll be using R685 on the new cross bike, with either 105 or Ultegra mechs.
Thinking at the moment is 105 due to being the cheapest to replace, but "because showbike" we might go Ultegra.

When you buy a groupset does it usually come with cables?

Yup.

Unless you buy OEM

• #3468
Good point
-
• #3469
in the near future will they bundle the RS685 with an existing groupset? Seems expensive to buy the 105 parts + RS685 atm :-/
-
• #3470
Doubtful, the RS685 is a non-series brake shifter set.
It does not come with rotor I think.

ordered mine last friday and arrived yesterday so you shouldn't have any problems, just need time to fit mine now

I ordered some new socks because there was a definite loss of power transfer through the old ones. Things have moved on.

No drilling just used the adhesive cable guides to run the wires along DT and chainstay to the junction under the BB.
Only other silly thing was zip tie the front junction to the headtube so it wasn't flapping around and is again a bit neater looking in profile.

It's got to go somewhere
That pyrenees descending Ed, was it full hydraulic typ hy/rd's? I'm curious as to whether they have the same benefits as full hydraulic because for a while at least I can see full hydraulic being out of reach for me/most people
Also, what about hydraulic, dual pivot rim brakes, surely both of these are being heralded as the next big things separately, put them together and discs have a competitor in the road market?
