Nice frame btw.

Is it a high days and holidays show pony, or a bike which is going to get regular use and serious miles? If it's the former, then vintage Dura Ace. If it's the latter, then 5800. Or 6800.

The rings have different spacing than normal.

Ultegra 6870.
Any good?
Does it work with upgrades like those funky climbers buttons? -
• #3284
Climbers buttons work with all the Ebus systems, sprinters buttons with DA only unless you use the DA junction box
-
• #3285
DA junction box is cray cheap in Kinoko closedown sale atm

Cheers dubtap.
If I move from campy. I'll want to be able to shift from the tops. Admittedly I can only shift up (hitting the thumb shifter with my pinky). But I do it a lot when climbing. I preparation to a stint of out of saddle climbing. Which I do on the hoods. So shifting down prior to sitting is easy.I'm sure you adjust to the differences. Probably won't kill me to get on the hoods, shif, tthen stand. But I'd like to know the option is there.

I had the climber's buttons on the Dentist's Chair. Never used them. Even when I was riding with my hands on the tops, when I wanted to change gear it felt more natural to use the main levers. I had to make a conscious decision to use the climber's shifter. So I took it off - didn't have much choice when I switched to a Vuka Sprint bar, mind you.

Yeah. Sounds great in my head. But probably not needed in reality.
Cant believe I'm considering going up my SR. But I fancy a change, and need something more idiot proof. -

thanks!

^^ put-hands-on-hoods-shift-stand-up < this feels like the most natural movement going. Perhaps shimano has got to me :-)
I'd like to try shifting around with the satellite shifters on longish climbs when you seated and on the tops for the whole thing. I'm pretty sure I'd use that.

One thing I found was that on those long climbs where you're seated, I hardly ever changed gear. It was only when the road flattened that I'd want to change gear, and when that happened I'd switch to the hoods anyway.

I do loads of long climbs. But my old hamstrings won't let me sit for long.

Good price.
Halp. I'm torn between going modern (5800) or buying vintage Dura Ace parts (probably 7400 8 speed) for my Serotta. What do you guys think? 7400 Parts can be found cheaply and are period correct, but 11 speed is tempting...
By the way I found 5800 with the 6800 crankset for €420,- / 330,- GBP on this Dutch webshop.
