Ok so this is the best place to ask.
Recently I got a Klein Quantum Race, the one with the candy blue fade.
It came with the original shimano 600 group but I want to update it to something modern and fast shifting. Currently the shifting seams really sluggish (do not want).Alternatives that have been crossing my mind so far are:
- a used Campagnolo Record Carbon 10sp groupset for around 400£
- a new Shimano Ultegra 6800 11sp groupset heavily discounted for around 600£
What would you guys propose?
- a used Campagnolo Record Carbon 10sp groupset for around 400£

All opinions/suggestions are more than welcome

you will regret asking this

• #2206
6800 is now £516 at ribble...
-
• #2207
The Ultegra, I'd probably go 6700 myself, better looking and cheaper...
-
• #2208
no regrets. opinions welcome. everyone has one. shoot.
thanks for the heads up sohi

i know this is only based on aesthetics but after the new dura ace stuff came out and the crank design dripped down to the ultegra range (6800) the 6700 doesn't do it for me TM

6800 is below £500 (pro bike kit + quidco)

I'd get the Record 10 speed. And I hate Campag.
-
• #2212
Is the hate of the thumb-shifting thing justified? never used those before
-
• #2213
The hate is only justified on those old 2300 levers where your thumb need to be as long as your index finger.

i see, thanks Ed

10 speed Record is very nice and very light.
Hard to beat Ultegra @ £500 though.
-
• #2216
worth considering that Record 10 rear mechs still cost around £200 new if you break one and need to replace it, whereas Ultegra is about £50.
-
• #2217
^ yeah that's important man, thanks for pointing it out. The chainrings on the Record 10 look like they need to be replaced in the near future and I just saw that the group comes without a cassette. Both would add to the price.
From all the above I think Ultegra is winning so far.
I appreciate all the help

• #2218
sounds like ultegra is a no-brainer
-
• #2219
looks like it yeah. should have gone for the dura ace group that sold for 550 in the classified recently.
-
• #2220
Meh. Where possible, always buy first hand groups - anything with moving parts that will wear is worth getting new, unless you are getting a stupid deal.
-
• #2221
thanks for your help dan, i think i'll get the 6800 from pro bike kit, as amey proposed above
-
• #2222
No reason why you can't mix and match the groupset.
-
• #2223
suggestions Ed?
-
• #2224
i.e. Record with Veloce drivetrain.
Best to go to a bicycle shop that have a bike with those component to see which feel more comfortable for you.

I have the tendency to break things (mainly accidentally or occasionally intentionally) so probably will stay clear of the Record stuff. I'll give it some more thought but am probably going to go for the 6800. it seams like the best valued option right now
definitely a bingo hall
