  • Ner ner ni ner ner

I'm drinking a beer right now.

  • My Sram Red brakes with the stock Swissstop pads and Gore Professional cables are fucking awesome. Tonnes of stopping power and tonnes of modulation. I find myself going down hills much faster than I used to because of the amount of confidence it gives me.

They are powerful, but spongy. Record brakes are much cleaner, they don't quite have the grunt of the Red ones, but you get great feedback and more... I dunno... Accuracy.

  • Go to the pub.

  • I'm drinking a beer right now.

I have already had 2 in two pubs - in between a long walk. Am now getting stuck into a 5th whilst my girlfriend frowns at me for being on my phone on holiday.

  • I'm in the pub Andy!

  • Good, now log off and enjoy your evening.

  • Roger

  • ...........best advice so far.

  • Looking at 10 or 11 speed Record for my Colnago. Doesn't have to be the latest. Cheapest country to purchase from and any websites you'd reccomend?

  • Anybody wish to comment on whether I can use a 6800 on the old Hope hubs? Before everybody says no:

  • if it does work, it's gonna bell hella tight. Don't think I would want that, would spend the whole time being terrified of over shifting into the spokes and.. kaboom.

I think dubtap posted a link somewhere showing how you could angle grind a hub to fit 11spd. Don't really fancy that either, but...

  • Yep Lennard Zinn filed a factory Shimano wheel 10sp freehub by hand and 11sp cassette fitted it. If you get the hi lo settings on the rear derailleur right then over shifting s/b impossibru.

  • Well, that does not sound good. So I have to build a new rear wheel with these once the rim goes?

  • Rotor 3d school of graphics on hope hubs can >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • That sounds better. But is he not the guy who says you can run an eleven speed Campy cassette with Shimano, is that possible? Will talk to my local bike shop.

My front hub on Ardennes looks like filed version after crash already.

  • But is he not the guy who says you can run an eleven speed Campy cassette with Shimano, is that possible?

Yes, and apparently so - the spacing is as near identical on Shimano and Campag 11 speed cassettes as makes no difference.

  • I'm trying to decide on a groupset to go on my tourer, thinking of 105. Unless anyone can recommend a good alternative that's reliable and hard wearing for a roughly similar price.

  • Sora or Claris.

  • I've got Campag Veloce on my winter bike - seems pretty durable so far. Mind you, at the prices which Merlin's doing 105 gearsets for at the moment, I'd be tempted by that.

  • ^^^ Rival / Apex / 105. Sora and everything below is a POC

  • Campag is nice, but I wouldn't advise anyone to 'get into it' now.

  • I was seriously impressed by quality of the cabled Ultegra group I bought recently- bit out of budget I guess at ~£570 or so, mind.

  • 11 speed? Limited choice of components makes it a bit pointless for touring etc.

  • Anywhere that's cheaper than Merlin for a 105 group? I've found a couple of German sites, but with less customisation possibilities...

  • merlin is usually the cheapest. Occasionally Ribble pops up with a deal though..
