Caps, seem to be the right thing, either 1.5" or 2", depending on what you like:

is their abs really £117 per metre? or am i reading it wrong

edit - depends on the class then, class T and E are way cheaper and come in loads of sizes

good find, let us know what you find out regarding pipe classes.

that works both ways. and i don't think me dropping my mallet is the head's fault, the pole on it is a bit too short for me, so i have to hold it right at the end and i don't get the best grip. plus mine's made using locally available materials and doesn't require any special machining or anything, just a hacksaw and a drill. done.

And it sparks when you hit the ball!

still, i can take another big order. order 1.5" tubing by the foot and caps in singles or pairs. i'll take a list and see if i can send off one more order in a week. i'll get back to you with final costs soon.

When are you expecting to take delivery of the goods doc?

If Lucky will sort out the wear issue* in some way I'd be well up for it. Especially if the currency rate settles some in the next few months so they'll be reasonably priced.

*I sent him a pic of mine after one day at Mitch. and he was shocked! Joking that we were playing on sandpaper or something.

still reckon we should make our own ... if vidal's UK pipe source is any good, cohen has said he can get access to a lathe (laithe?) to machine the end-caps. As long as they fit on the outside a la first pic, they're going to last longer.

Fault with the outer caps are: a) Matt's seems to fall off every other game. b) once they're hooked its really easy to lose your mallet.

Pro's with the outer caps are: a) wear b) replaceable c) more customization in terms of lengths/widths?

I think replaceable inner caps are the way to go.

a) not if you screw or bolt them on and b) that works both ways, just get a good grip!

granted i haven't tried the inner caps yet (when can i get mine from you mike, you playing tomorrow night?) , but it just doesn't seem like they will save the head from much wear, since you have to get through the actual head before you even touch the replaceable part...
