  • probably only worth the trip if you are definitely going to splash wonga on a lot of stuff, or if you need a frame and wheels..big stuff at low prices..otherwise like JC said, the train fares/fuel and all that makes it a little silly.

the way the hipster scene has caused prices to inflate in the last two years on track parts makes me sick. like nitto stuff now being double the price, fucking pain in the arse for track racers on a budget who are still using older bikes with threaded steerers.

true...i hope all the hipsters will start buying more phil wood hubs in 2009.....so all the poor track racers and non-hipster riders will have to go back to their trusted formula/miche hubs and will have something to feel sick about....fingers crossed

  • I dordled too much, a lot to take in.
nice white 753 bob jackson track frame, amazing blue cinelli road bike and lots of friendly knowledgeable people. one man was so keen to get in early he asked to use the toilets before slipping into the jumble an hour early, cheeky.

only bought a campag hat for £4, campag bottom bracket tool for £5 and campag pista cranks with two record rings for £80, unintentional campag theme.

  • one man was so keen to get in early he asked to use the toilets before slipping into the jumble an hour early, cheeky.

i wonder how many times he's used that little number

  • only problem was BLB used the fact they had stall to buy up all the prime ish before the doors opened........

  • do you know what they get their hands on? now you say that, did see a fair few frames tucked behind their stall

  • only problem was BLB used the fact they had stall to buy up all the prime ish before the doors opened........

you should have asked to use the toilet.
i dont think there could ever be a buyer fair/friendly way of doing it apart from organisers saying that there can be no selling or shopping of any kind before the public opening time and for that to happen there would have to be a major boycott on the part of buyers.

  • yeah.. didn't buy much, but did learn barspins so that's enough for me.....

  • The sneaky man who slipped in under the pretense of visiting the gents made my life a little tricky when I genuinely needed a wee half an hour before the doors opened. After a few minutes of pleading the only way I was allowed in was to leave my wallet and phone with the security guard. Even then she tried her hardest to find me an authorized supervisor!

BLB looked happy as Larry sitting on his wealth of newly acquired goodies.

  • i didnt get anything at all of interest
but the the tunnel ride was good

  • i didnt get anything at all of interest

    Don't.
I can't fucking come on the proper one as I've got an exam the next day. Fucking bullshit I swear. What was it like? My friend seemed to think going into the mersey tunnel in anything except a tank was a suicide attempt.

  • and black miche primato advanced chainset with miche bb and sparkly black chainring courtesey of phasergunalex - cheers dude!

Hey no worries dude, was nice to meet you! Hope you managed to get back alright with all those wheels!

Managed to find exactly what i was looking for...a 151 campag track ring, the one with the reinforcing ring under the teeth. Been tempted to get one from campy oldy, but couldn't split with seventy odd quid...found one in a box for a tenner; CHUFFED!!

Also got a sweet Harry Quinn track frame, more on this to follow in current projects.

Pretty happy on the whole with what i got, but yeah, BLB definitely got all the bargains before everyone else...saw Jan picking up another Harry Quinn complete from the Graham Weigh stand, chromed stays and stuff, with a £200 price tag on it. Shame. Expect to see that frame in BLB for a lot more than that!!

  • Jan got a Gipiemme rear track disc in near mint condition for £30, that'll have a bit of a mark up on it too I'm sure.

I got a rear Campagnolo disc wheel for £100 (but it's not in the best condition), a pair of campagnolo epsilon sprint rims for a tenner, some mavic gl 330 rims for 2 quid! Trying to get some training wheels built for the track bike, so this is a good start. Also got a bike for my housemate for 30 quid! We've been taking it apart all evening but I think it could tidy up a treat! Unfortunately I've got no money for food now.

phasergunalex, was that bike you got a nice white one? It looked great!

I actually went to buy that disc wheel, although i'd probably never use it, i couldn't leave it there for £30, but alas, i witnessed it being bought. Ah well. And yes, there will be a considerable mark up i'm sure!

Yeah, it was the white Harry Quinn that was at the back of the jumble...offered a silly price at the end and got it. Parts are a bit naff, but the frame is niiice...needs a respray though, has had a white rattle can job unfortunately.

Also remembered, i found a 1/8" 24t cog for a fiver...means i can finally run my 59t chainring brakeless FTW!

  • Biles was thinking about the white track bike, and the guy selling it said that he could refinish the paint of for him if he bought it. If you've got his number than he might touch the paint up for you? Looks really nice though.

Did you see that weird little skate bike? like a mix between a bike and a rollerskate. The guy was whizzing about on it at the end of the jumble, looked amazing fun!

hahaha it wasnt that bad to be honest mate
    the uphill section was GRUELLING
i was last with my daft spinny gear
cars where sound just some dickhead ran drivers getting to close

  • yeah the guy selling the harry quinn said to me he had rushed it to get it finished for the jumble and would revarnish and fix up the transfers if I were to buy it for no extra, it may be worth asking him about it. how much did you get it for? I was tempted but got haggling guilt.

  • Yeah, he told me he could finish the job, but to be honest, what he'd already done was so sketchy i was keen to get it cheaper and do the work myself. It only has one downtube decal, and that's on wonky. Nick @ Lloyds can provide a whole set of Harry Quinn decals for not much money, so i'm gonna go that route after a respray.

I think the seller was a bit trigger happy with the old rattle can...the badly painted black seatpost on it turns out to be an aero shimano 600, should be nice cleaned up! Plus i got a Harry Hall road frame from him, that he'd also resprayed himself. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to meddle with bikes. Seriously.
