  • Yeah, that was one of the first things I said. It's hard to avoid high sticking when mallets get hooked. The mallets find their own way up naturally as people cycle apart, and since you usually get hooked from underneath, up is the only direction out.

  • that is shit Iain, I hope is nothing to bad

It's nothing serious, just a little nick. I thought it was pretty funny that it happened again on Valentine's day. I left the house yesterday thinking I wouldn't come back with a burst lip this time. I'm now sitting in work with a black eye.

  • damn, dude.

  • black eye.

    Scottish birthmark

oh, you fuckin fancy wan, dae ye?

  • did you order a pizza this time iain?

  • Hurling helmet. £70. The Irish boys are using something similar on grass.

Also, check these out (wrong thread, I know) ... hurling gloves have an open or thin palm, but full back of hand protection:

"Hurling Glove from Setanta. Padded back of hand and Suede/Rubber super grip palm and Velcro wrist strap. Fitted design to allow both maxium protection for back of hand and excellent grip on palm."

As you already have the helmet wouldn't something like Oli's (Berlin) solution work for you?

  • Matt BD, has the criquet Ti helmet, and was cheaper if I remember correctly

  • A guy here has got an old hockey grill and attached it to a skate style cycling lid, looks like a better solution than helmets intended for other sports...

Yeah, i've been looking out for a grill, but all the full-face ones i've seen aren't what I want; too much 'grill' going on. I like the look of Matt's cricket one - plenty of space in line of sight. Plus, i'm not sure a bodge of current helmet + found cage will be as good as one that's properly made, like the hurling ones.

  • two Bern helmet modification

  • another one

  • ^ Wow!

  • grid in ebay, hot pic

  • smaller grids at a reseasonable price, from USA

    here, here, here and here

  • it makes more sense to me, as a cricket helmet isnt designed for impact from bike crashes..

i think there is a way to make it detachable with velcro as well..

  • pfff.

  • This one is awesome:

Doesn't look like it would affect visibility or head movement (grill bumping into shoulder).

    Some one make one.

  • it makes more sense to me, as a cricket helmet isnt designed for impact from bike crashes...

yep, just designed for impact from bits of wood thrown at around 100 mph... Probably won't stand up to a polo pile up. :)

(by the way I'm not a fan of cricket, I think along with baseball it is the worst team sport I've ever played)

  • Valentine's Curse strikes again.

Mark drew blood from just above my left eye; I hooked his mallet and he raised it to try to break loose, caught me in the face. Time for a full-face guard.

Thanks Rik. I've ordered the one below, < £15 incl. postage from US. I'm not a fan of the full face cages ... i'll try this one and post the results.
