Worst aspect of winter running----internal dialogue before you get going.
After that.

If someone finds some mojo floating around, could you send it back to Streatham please? Mines gone walkabout.

I think I may have rediscovered mine, mainly due to the fact my knees didn't ache. Went and got lost in a new wood near me.

Just got changed to go for a run, remembered that I'm on call (and need to be within 30 minutes of my laptop). That's ok, I can just carry my on call 'phone and my usual 6km loop is possible, but it means a first run without headphones. Will this help me get out of that habit and just enjoy the sounds of nature (and me breathing through my arse)?

I need to start running. Seemed to have lost the motivation to train as well. Better late than never.

a first run without headphones
Answer: Headphones no longer required. Didn't miss listening to music at all. Jolly good.

Apologies to those with low mojo, I may have stolen it - just getting back to running this week, and will have 15 hours by the end of t0day. Loving it.

28:39 for 5 miles round lloyd park in Croydon for my best position yet in the Surrey League. Part of a team that won by a 100+ point margin. We finished 45 minutes before the rain started slashing down.
This mornings long run round Shooters Hill totally wiped me out. Had to go back to bed and have been demolishing food all day.

Congrats! That puts you at the very sharp end for sure with that time? The speedy Sale Harriers put 8 minutes into me yesterday, whippets that they are.
Likewise pretty wiped out so nowt doing today, just coffee, cake & beer.

Does anyone know if the Nike Running store in Covent Garden is open?
They're still listing the Boxpark store on the Nike website, and that hasn't been there for almost a year if memory serves.

Is that where you're based? I'm just in the process of selling up in Shooters, will miss it as a place to run, so many parks and woodlands to link up for great long runs with minimal pavement time - Oxleas, Avery, Eltham, Bostall, West Wickham, and not far to Chiselhurst. There aren't too many parts of London that give you those sort of options.

I did a 10k in Greenwich Park yesterday. I didn't exactly put in a stellar performance but it could have been far worse. I think I've nailed nutrition though: I had a toasted pitta bread (didn't have any normal bread) and an out-of-date yoghurt before leaving the house, then an out-of-date gel waiting for the start. Felt pretty good, food wise, no diving into the bushes or anything halfway round.
There were loads of runners, most of whom were listening to ipods and weaving about the place. One woman spent 3/4 of the run holding a business call, and annoyingly I couldn't drop her (which says a lot about my speed!!) so I got to listen to her business negotiations and a lengthy discussion about her notice period. One chap nearly thumped me in the face when he tried to take his jacket off in the middle of the path, doing what looked like a great impression of an electrocuted octopus. Clearly no one was aware of the Hardness Committee as I was the least dressed person there (shorts and short sleeve top). Quite a few people were running wearing tights, jackets, hats and gloves. WTF?!
There’s another 2 races in the series and I've already signed up for the whole thing, which I'm kind of regretting now due to the crowds/ipods/octopi/seas of fluro winter running wear.

how is it for obstacles in greenwich park? is it slippery leaves everywhere yet?
going all out in the morun 10km there at the end of the month, racing flats, short shorts, the full works, but my flats have about as much grip as bambi on ice.
should be quite an interesting run, we have a group of over 150(!) runners from run dem taking part which is the largest group the morunning people have had at any of their races since they started. am really looking forward to it (but also dreading trying to run at 7:00 min mile pace for 6.2 miles)

Lots of leaves, a couple of mega puddles down by the Maritime Museum. I nearly fell over at the end walking back to the bandstand to pick up my stuff as the grass had got really churned up by people crossing over between there and the start/finish, so watch out even when you've finished running!!
OH YEAH, I forgot about another obstacle. Dogs! Loads of dogs running about in the park, at least two tried to join in the race. I thought it was quite fun but if you don't like dogs then it might be a bit scary.

I ran through Greenwich Park last night at dusk, and it was fine, didn't feel at risk of slipping, even in the dark - the paths are generally too busy for too much crap to collect on them.
-
• #9919
great, think i might have to do a recce run before hand and try my shoes out as sounds like it could potentially scupper my race plans completely otherwise.
big fan of dogs though probably not so much if they're getting under my feet when i'm going flat out.

if i remember from last year the bottom right corner if you stand facing the thames tends to accumulate water and leaves in abundance so i think that's possibly the one place to worry about. thankfully it's not too long a stretch of the course.

Yeah, that's the bit I meant.

Where can I buy the opposite of fingerless gloves? i.e. gloves that cover the fingers only - seeing as it's just my fingers that ever suffer with the cold.
-
• #9924
Condoms. Available at most pharmacies. Boots often have them on buy one get one free.
-
• #9925
Where you're going wrong is by seeing it as suffering. You need to look on it as tutoring - teach your fingers to enjoy the cold and your problem is gone.
Aye. Cap got soaked too.
Rode in rain to lift to event on bulford ridge in deepest military Wiltshire ran it in pissing rain rode car back then back on bike in pissing rain home. Csb earned my cleansing ales now off to deckatonics gig for a skank.boom
