  • Trip over your laces?

    Toyl

  • the imperceptible nod is the only interaction I'm aware that runners share.

  • Even the fleeting nod is a rare occurrence. Runners never seem to acknowledge me, but the dog walkers always say "Good Morning".

  • if there's a chance to introduce a new greeting to the world of running can I propose that it's the jumping heel click.

it would brighten my training up no end to see that.

  • You can't really click trainers together though. Do Asics do blakeys?

  • I propose the greeting should be yelling "Boo!" or "AAAARGH!", especially if you're just about to overtake someone wearing headphones on a dark towpath.

  • I always snap the cuff of my latex gloves to acknowledge a fellow runner.

It must cheer them up- they invariably accelerate in response.

  • A barely imperceptible wave of the index finger and a light shout of the word "CUNT" generally suffices.

  • Dammit, oooh matron, never knew you cared

  • First time I ran past a large group of squaddies out training, with them running in formation, one of them shouted BANG at me, so surprised nearly dropped dead, very funny in retrospect.

As for when it becomes fun, it never become fun, it's a default... you feel better generally... and when you don't run, you feel miserable.

  • I keep going out running, and I have to say I have yet to actually enjoy it- I am always thinking about when it's going to be over.
At what point does it become fun?

    Runners high.

Had this yesterday. 16k mountain run with a 300 step climb near the end. Got to the top of the steps, legs felt like lead, ambled up to the top of the mountain, sucking violently at the air. The on the downward slight incline that followed, my legs loosened up again, and I felt like I could outrun anything on earth.

Its an amazing feeling, that I often get, when everthing (leg muscles, lungs, heart, core stability) kicks into action at the same time. Much as I love cycling, I've never had this feeling on a bike.

  • I've had the same thing, it all seems to just fall into sync and you feel like you can go on for miles.

no better feeling from a run than when you start out feeling like crap and trying to talk yourself out of it, get over that hump within the first few miles, find that rhythm and end up just running for miles, when you're done you feel like you can do anything. (this however is usually a precursor to me collapsing on the sofa and inhaling lots of food to replenish my depleted energy).

can't wait until it's light enough to go running at 6am in greenwich park again this year, such an awesome way to start the morning running through the quiet park with only a handful of other people and the squirrels for company.

experienced this yesterday morning. i felt like a fraud.

  • the imperceptible nod is the only interaction I'm aware that runners share.

When I was living in berkshire it was 'mornin'. Even if it was'nt actually morning, which was freaky.

When I met a series of runners, it felt like the whole county had conspired to feck with my head.

  • I find unless it's someone on srs runners bsns (aka a grumpy bastard) that most runners even if not openly friendly are typically understanding/welcoming of beginners. there's not the great divide you have between nodders/roadies/fakengers... etc

although runners who travel two abreast and take up the whole path for their power talkswalks and remain oblivious to people trying to pass can raise other peoples ire quite quickly.

  • there is a lot of flouro nodders in running though, on the roads anyway.

  • I had a fluoro ron hill top which I had to throw away. Wore the tips off both my nipples during the Marlow half marathon. The rain and the contrast of the blood trail (went all the way down to the waist band) against the yellow fluoro top, made Mrs Smallfurry think I'd been shot. Which is simply weird on several levels.

apart from up a mountain in Norway

  • Had a great run Friday evening, felt great my first run in ages I'm going to go out again tonight easing myself in to it.

  • It's alright this running lark innit?

I haven't run since I did 800 metres in high school (17-18 years ago), then decided I'd do a marathon this year. Left it too late to get into London so signed up for Brighton Marathon instead.

Started running in the new year and it looks like I could be on course for a 3:45, I'll be dead happy with that.

Brighton half marathon this Sunday and shooting for a 1:45 ish

    True.

All you get there are nordic walkers. Who take all the fecking trail with their walking stick things.

Its fecking winter. Theres loads of snow around. Go fecking nordic skiing you knobs

A typical target for 'amature yet keen' runners is under 100mins for a half. So 1:45 is a good target. Especially if a 3:45 marathon is the ultimate target.

I was waiting for my UKA number to come through so I could run as a member of my running club and it ran out of spaces before it came through otherwise I'd have been running this too. :(

    have fun.

  • I'm only running it because I got a place transferred from someone else.

It's a little bit off my marathon schedule but thought it would be good prep. especially as it covers a lot of the same route.

  • i am planning another 5K fun run (3rd year) in regents park for our school.. the swines at royal parks (the hub) insist on a farking huge fee, despite the fact that we set everything up, organise teams, plan route, marshall everything..

what a bunch of cants for doing nothing :(
