Its been all about the slushy snow gravel paths this month.
Except the chunk of rock hard ice that pretended to be slush and sent me flying over the edge of the path. Fecker.

There are very few/ no trails near the house.
I may start riding out to the countryside to go for a run, but I'm worried that my housemates will think I've completely lost it. -

Bloody hell, I've done 229 this year, 500 is fantastic!
does that include races and track sessions?
I'm on 433 + races and track sessions.
500 is definitely on track for 2014 in 2014. keep it up.
and a little bit of light weekend reading: big running v running

"There's no more need for a running industry than there is for a tree-climbing industry or a hide-and-seek industry.
Go-Ape have tree climbing sewn up, but the numbers for my hide-n-seek warehouse stack up, especially when sales of brick-o-flage clothing are factored in.

......I completely lost it years ago though.

LFGSS Hound race anyone?
Where we assign someone a bib, set them free in RP (or other suitable park- Wimbledon Common, etc), where they leave sublte clues within a defined but changeable route, and then the pack chase them down? -

Sounds a bit like mands' stalker ride! We should get jmf up to be the hound, think he'd lead us on a merry trail!

Hare and hounds sounds daft, but fun!
Stupidly nervous about pacing at kingston tomorrow, 8minute mile should be no problem and all I have to do really is stay with the other pacer, unless something goes wrong!

That was a really good way of forcing me to run at a pace nice and steadily, I was wearing the flag so I felt i had extra responsibility but tried to stay on 8 min mile pace throughout, we ended up finishing as a group of pacers with all our runners having kicked on in the last 2 miles, we had a silly race between the four of us in the last hundred meters trying to bet each other, without catching anyone else!

Spotted you Ed! with your flag! Was just too far away to shout, good work.

Boast post alert - 1:28:32 in today's Richmond half, well chuffed. So good to see all my training pay off. Felt strong and maintained a steady pace throughout. Nice course, but the barefoot shoes probably weren't the best choice, a few long stretches of gravel and mud. Looking forward to my next.

great run. pick a flat fast road one next time and you will be even faster. :)
had my last long slow run before half marathon next weekend. felt awful but managed to get to two hours before stopping. Not as good as one lad I know who ran 30miles in 3 hours this morning!

14k today, trying to build up distance for the hackney half.
Took it nice and slow and had gas left in the tank when I got in, watch told me 1:18:32 which seems allright.

Out early this morning, beautiful day but it never really clicked- always slightly more on the "this is an effort" side than "running is awesome, I love running", however I did set a bunch of PR's, so whilst the enjoyment isn't there I appear to be going faster.
To be honest I'd happily swap speed for fun.

If you're doing PB's you can't really expect not making an effort?
I didn't have a reason to get back home asap for the first time in ages so took it slow and steady, did wonders for enjoyment

When that happens to me, and it happens a fair bit because my regular run-route (and I've now tried every single variation and a bunch of alternatives which all are even more shit) is particularly uninspiring I just sprint till I cannot breathe, and usually that helps.

Kboy- I really wasn't trying, it was meant to be a long slow run in the sun.

I had an awesome run this morning. Last ran on Weds last week and it was horrible; Had to stop every 20 mins to rest my calves, catch my breath. Today the sun was shining, other runners were smiling instead of looking miserable, no knee problems, calves didn't cause me hassle and was relatively comfortable at 5.20/km for 20km. I'm now really looking forward to next Sundays half instead of dreading it.

An interesting one today. Highlights: running along the river east of Greenwich like I've wanted to do for ages; running part of the way with a friend; a dog joined us for a few minutes before its owner called it back, fulfilling my long held wish to run with a dog (it was amazing!!); some sun. Lowlights: getting hailed on; getting impaled on some thorns sheltering from the hail; being suddenly stricken with an upset stomach (turns out it's not only bears who.....); becoming suddenly really emotional listening to music and having a bizarre and fleeting cry; the fecking wind.
After 14 miles I wasn't tired at all and went to my friends house and she gave me have a change of clothes so we could go to the pub in clean clothes and I had the best roast dinner I've ever had.
The bar's been set though - my little brother did a marathon today in 3:38. Like a boss.

Oh and thanks to everyone who recommended 1000 mile socks. They're great to run in.
I'm heading down to my parents place this weekend, taking the trail shoes- really looking forward to it.
