  • Will you guys be easy to spot? I shall be spectating from a couple of places during the race and would be pleased to shout some encouraging abuse at you (HTFU, DAS, etc)

I'll have blue compression socks and a guide dogs vest on, oh and I'm short and fatter than I'd like!

  • diversion to one of my clubs events

I will be running in my LFGSS cap. Still need to work out how to DAS whilst running ...

  • Oh and I'm number 39997

  • Guess I'll be looking for a forum cap next to a fatty then ;)

I will be at Surrey Quays, the RAB at the start of Jamaica Rd, then at least one spot on the Isle of Dogs before heading to embankment. Although I probably won't have time to wait for you there as I have to be at the finish to pick the mrs up (possibly literally like last time...)

  • Ok, calf is twinging this morning- how long would people leave it AFTER it feels totally better, before running again?

What has been happening is that I get impatient when it feels "mostly" better, go out and run and FUBAR it again, putting back my training for running and cycling.

So I've decided to not run until this is better- an interesting choice given the Duathlon coming up, but better to be able to do the cycle and not the run, than not to be able to do either.

I had a hamstring problem, which sports physio wasn't helping with. I assumed it was just being overworked when cycling (running was fine), so I stopped cycling for 6 months. Only just started up again last month, very slowly, building my miles up again and so far hamstring has been fine.

Anyway, it could take weeks, or (in my case) months. Play it safe, lay off the running for a bit longer as you don't want to inflame the issue. Does it hurt when cycling?

  • Only when really giving it the beans, and/or out of the saddle.

I could probably pootle around in zone 2 and never get a twinge out of it.

  • So finally thinking about running again, we've moved house and I think there's some nice routes where we live.

I haven't ran properly for over a year what would you guys suggest I start with? Would getting out the house and running 1.5 miles for a few weeks be OK?

  • Wouldn't hurt, but I'd be inclined to go for time, rather than distance - run for 15 mins at a go to begin with, then build it up to a couple of days or so.

    Must spread rep etc.

  • do you taper or rest up for a 10k?

only done marathons and half's before when I've had a proper program, I've just entered a 10k in 3 weeks and need to get all the runs in before hand I can!

  • Don't do anything hard in the 4 days before it, but do get a couple of runs in.

  • not doing anything hard now, but i know what you mean,
    cheers

I'll be super incognito- Shelter Jersey and name (Henry).
Forgotten running number- which starts are you two? I'm Red Start I think.
    Looking forward to Expo Friday.
Need to control eating for the next couple of days... today was a massive fail in that regard.

  • If the legs and feet get better after this weekend, thinking about trying for a Moonlight Double - start maybe 11pm, run the course, turn around, run back, watch the start.

Would anyone be interested in joining in, maybe even just for the first mara?

  • I don't understand how you can run so far.
All the runs you post are beyond incredible.

  • I think it's because he is insane.

In other news, I have a Physio appointment this coming Wednesday.

So I should be back to running on Thursday, with any luck.

I'm in the red start as well, planning on getting my name printed on Thursday!

Yes I've been in eating control for a week, as I out about 2kg on during my taper for Paris!

I don't know what pen I'm in, I don't seem to have any way of finding out till I get my official bib, but it would be nice to catch up/and meet you two as my friends are in fast good for age/female championship starts so it'll be a lonely 30 minutes between entering that and actually setting off!

  • ^^unkind, but a common assessment, so will not take offence.

But if you love running, why not run for ever?

Two explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon race have left an unknown number of people injured.

    shit

  • Explosions reported at the finish of the Boston Marathon :-(

  • ^ not good, some pics on twitter show the aftermath. Thoughts to all affected.

  • Oh dear. Bad. Very bad.

  • Photos on the newswires are genuinely upsetting. Appalling, cowardly act, this.
