Haha, first long run. Logged to strava, with a new segment in, my average time 7:00, the fastest 2:something. That said, I'm running for distance, but still!
(oh, strava decided it was a ride, even though I'd set it to run, that makes more sense)Trying to go for long distance to get a feel for the energy drain, felt absolutely rubbish in the last 3rd, had my first fall ever. Caught my left toe, and just didn't respond. Down like a sack of potatoes. Quite tempted to just lay there and call for a lift home. 1:45 half though, pretty pleased for my first run over 6 miles in about 9 months

A bout of insomnia led to a pre-dawn tour of all the highlights of london via the lea river / regent's canal: Clapton, Hackney Wick, Mile End, Homerton, Dalston. Lovely. Doing it in the dark along the unlit parts of the river was a bit eerier / terrifying.
Around 7.5-8 miles in an hour. Not breaking any records, but pretty good for me.

Impressive times, but the iphone gps deserves a lot of credit for them.

I'm just doubting the actual route involved running back and forth across the sports fields of Highgate Junior School.

Got round my 10 mile race today in 1:13:45
[Excuses] Wind, hills, lack of training and an imminent cough/cold ensured I missed getting under my target of 73 mins [/Excuses] but a pb of over 6 minutes was enough to be pleased about. Got a couple more 10 mile races in the next few months so I'll hopefully be working my way towards sub 70ins -

I saw that and thought the same about the sports field. But pushed it for first mile or so compared to when I ran the route before, times are within the realms of possibility though, I've run a sub 40 10k (just 39:48) but that was in 2007 and I'm not getting any younger, but we can't give up trying to keep the times nice and respectible can we? If Strava want to me a 'boost' for next session I take it :)

You'll be amazed what you can do we you really push and I find focussing on breathing 'effectively' really helps to get those extra strides out that can make a big difference. Oh and pump those arms. Good luck!

2/ 82 , the dude who beat me by less than a minute overall only really had me towards the end. A great day on the wild new forest plain. may have youtube clips from friends headcam soon. so night race last night, and night race tommorrow makes for good performance. -

^night running in a forest, finishing second... Well done. Get him next time right! One question, was that 'the' Roger Moore who seemingly retired from the race? Would be nice to see a vid!

Did a half-marathon on trails this morning. Not a fast time, even by my standards, but I feel good now. I think my pacing and breathing are getting better. After my first half I was limping for days. But I've just had a shower and I'm now going to wander into town to do some errands. This is good news, but I'm still gonna be screwed for next month's marathon!

plans for the week was severely impacted by falling off my bike in the rain last monday night and falling heavily on my knee. took a week off.
back to work on sat and did 3 laps of swains lane for a total round trip of 9miles. felt alright and happy with steady progress. look to gradually increase this to somewhere around 6ish laps on my long run

Now 4 weeks into not dong my marathon training plan.
Work had slackened off, so it's back to running.
8 miler commute tonight, with back pack - will try and knock it out in 65 minutes.

The 12 miler with a cold appears to have broken me completely. I am a walking snotball. Not doing that again.

Yesterday I did my first outdoor run for quite some time, did 2 laps of Hampstead Heath. With sprints up Signal Hill, not a good idea.
Hampstead Heath will be my weekly running exercise with a run home thrown in for good measure. Now I still need to learn how to swim properly and I might actually do that triathlon that I stupidly enough signed up for.

Turned out to be 10 miles. In 90 minutes. Felt shit.
-
• #4699
^ if it feels shit it's probably a good thing.
Floaty runs are ace, but rare and when the dont happen I tell myself the gritty hard ones are the ones that count for training.
Train hard, race easy.

That said my run to work this morning was floaty ace and easy, and fairly fast.
4th sunday in a row I do my long loop, chuffed just for that. To top that off I managed it 5 minutes faster than the last two weeks, few seconds below my PB. 9.4k in 48.37, makes for 5.10/k. Feels good man.
