10 miles today. 5 miles out of town on an off-road track, handful of jelly babies, straight back. No traffic, no fumes. Why can't all running be like that? I need to leave London and move back to the country.

And where would those idlers in the country get their jelly babies, if it weren't for all the hard-working city folk?

I got mine from the arse-pocket of my Nike leggings. Nicely melting, they were.

Strange one today, I went for a 10k run, which was pretty much bang on the time I thought it was going to be- 52 minutes, which is appropriate given the amount of time I've spent running recently.
What was more interesting was that I'd swum 1.5k and ridden 40k before going out for the run- both activities at a relatively low impact, but still, they seemed to not affect the run that much.

^Known as IM Floridraft.
DIM as in Double or Deca? Please tell me you aren't mad enough for a Deca!
Out of interest how do you keep your bike legs while running ultras? I'm hoping to do IMWales in sept but somewhat depressingly, after a couple of years focussing on running I'm now a worse cyclist than before I started cycling 4 years ago (from a background in rowing).
I do have a yellow hibiscus and butterfly Tri-suit if that helps :-)
DoubleIron Florida is on, but a few mates are going to do 3 days of IM beforehand as a warm-up. Doing Deca later this year in Italy, tho, so clearly mad enough for that.
Got into running ultras because I kept breaking wrists (well, cars kept breaking them for me) and not being able to ride, and riding has definitely suffered. But in ultra-tri, it's good to be a runner - so many guys overcook the bike and end up with a long, long jog-walk. At DIMUK, I got off the bike 11th and ran up to 4th just by knowing I couldn't push the bike.

Does anyone want to run the London Marathon this year? Due to injuries and pregnancies my work has places - deadline is next week... Minimum sponsorship fee is negotiable and it's a whole 11 weeks away so TONS of time for training, right?
My colleague has suggested that I do it, I can barely run 5k at the moment and I don't really fancy a 26mile walk. Hmm.

It's payday bitches and that means more events entered to bolster the summer schedule.
May 26th Edinburgh Marathon
June 8th Man vs Horse Marathon
June 22nd Bob Graham Round Weekender (fell recce ahead of next years attempt)
July 7th Skiddaw Fell Race
August 4th Ironman UKFuck to the fuck yeah. Train hard people. It's PDB.

Most people will only just have started their marathon build. My gf is only a week and a half into marathon specific training and she's taking it seriously. For anyone who's running regularly and done a few half marathons there is indeed plenty of time to train and put in a good performance.

Is anyone here doing the Race your Pace at Dorney Park in a couple of weeks? I'm registered, just looking at how to get down there. Might hire a car if there's a couple of people on here who want to get involved.

My GF was going to enter but is injured at the moment. If she goes I'll either try to swing a place in the duathlon or go recce some of the TP. We'll be driving from Oxford though so that probably won't help you out much.
CHUG_IT: I'll be sending you a pm at some point... I'm interested in several of those races.

LFGSS Bob Graham 24hr team entry for 2014?? Just a thought...

I'm doing it but will be coming from wokingham.
It should be pretty easy by train sparky, its only a couple of miles from taplow station, just head right out the station, down marsh lane and you're there...
-
• #4647
I was looking at Slough station and it's 4-and-a-bit miles away. I shall check out this "Taplow" of which you speak.

LFGSS Bob Graham 24hr team entry for 2014?? Just a thought...
Well since AirTime brought it up, this was the bit I was most interested in too. I'm a long way from committed at the moment, but I've mentioned it on here before that I would be interested in trying a 24hrBGR on my 30th birthday (June 2014). At the moment it's just a germ of an idea but if you are going up to recce in June this year then I'd be very interested in tagging along just to get a feel for the logistics involved etc. Of course you should have no hesitation in telling me to stick it if you think I'll be in the way/slow you down, after all, it's you're attempt but I'd definitely be interested.
I'm also interested in Edinburgh and Man Vs Horse, but I won't be entering either till I see how I go at the TP. Also thinking of IMwales in September if I can afford it so it sound's like we're on similar schedules :-).

Interested. I've got a few mates who've done BGR and it's on the bucket list. Next year might be good, as I'm planning a lighter year.
haha don't fall into that trap! depends on how hard you try.
when i go with my gf i generally just mince about with some light jogging. it's good to get out and do stuff like this with her and give her some encouragement and not just be out for myself, but when i'm on my own it's full throttle and i'll be trying real hard with an intense 5km.
therefore it's a good way to mix up your training, with some tempo runs during the week, an intense sat morning 5km and then maybe a long run on the sunday, depending on how you are feeling
