Today was meant to be a 'confidence' run 2 weeks out from the Edinburgh marathon. Instead, it was a laboured 10mile run, with tired legs. I guess my legs had not recovered from last weeks 21 mile run and friday night's interval session; and my body had not recovered from yesterday's beer in the sun onslaught.

Made the mistake of wearing my mavic cycling socks which are basically fishnet tights cut down. Way to thin for running and now I have blisters on the outer edge of the balls of my feet which is fucking fabulous.

Today's run was pretty much ruined by needing to pee for 11 miles. Green Chain people, your routes are pretty but they need moar toilets.
On the plus side my knees seem to've sorted themselves out.

I bought a pair of "blister resistant" running socks from M&S. What a lie, I've got big old blisters all over the soles of my feet. Would not recommend. I need some x socks...
Did 10k race today, and feel reasonably alive still! First ever race :)

How've you got so far without managing to master the al fresco whizz? Then you can graduate to the more risky moves - I've laid many a link on the Green Chain. It's ok cos Paula Radcliffe made it acceptable.

Pifko you doing Poole 10 you look good for it.Thanks - I also would not recommend doing first ever race in full Mary Poppins costume, but there we go.
Sub-40 10k sounds terrifying - good luck with it! :)

Going to be in Tenerife at the time. Think of me in the pissing rain again while I'm jogging around a volcano.

I was meant to be out on the bike yesterday but got soaked on the way to work and my lycra was still wet by home time. Opted to head back to the hill and go out on the feet instead. Yesterday was slow 8.22min/miles. Aside from not wanting to put any effort in to increase the pace the distance came easily. Nice to know after a couple of weeks of slacking/doing other things/drinking too often. Legs are nice and fresh this morning too.

And in sharp contrast- rest day for me today, so I thought I'd got for a run.
From the off my lower legs hurt, I pushed through it.
Ultimately I made it about two and a half miles before I had to stop- which hasn't happened for about a year and a half.
Annoying.

New trainers :)
My kayanos have done too many miles, and the cushioning has died somewhat while the stability features have remianed solid. Making for a poor ride.
Saw some DS-trainers on clearance, and could'nt resist it. I basically always go for a high end stability model, and feck the weight or heel height. I've always fancied the light'n'low models though.
I made an effort to move my strike point forward slightly. But otherwise they were aces over 10km. They feel so fast, and seem to encourage good form more than my usual stability model.
....and they is RED.

^ nice. Red is always faster.
I did 10k yesterday morning which was really enjoyable. It's the furthest I've ran yet and was a bit slow at 53 mins but that can easily come down.
It felt great after the other day when I went for a run after work, got to the end of the street and just thought fuck it and went home. Got to be in the right mood. -

Very jealous of the red shoes! I don't think my forrest gump-style shoes come in any fancy colours :(
Red is DEFINITELY always faster.

The extra ankle gripper on those DS actually works BTW.
After building 5Kg of added muscle, my rugby 15s season has been cancelled. Cant be arsed to carry around the extra weight, running or cycling, for the sake of the contact involved in 10s/7s. So plan to get my running km's back up.
....to the weight lose thread.

I'd like to think so... I was pretty pleased with it and it was a really consistent pace which is good.
45 mins or under would be cool. Maybe in a few weeks, if that's realistic? -

5:20min km's
Not shabby by any means. Would be easy to scrub 20 seconds per km, once the distance is comfortable. Get a watch with a 10+ lap memory. Make say km's 7 and 9 fast ones. Note the times, and aim to run all 10 at this pace next time. I find this a decent way of setting goals.

then go out and run it.
