Ah interesting, had been thinking about an Autumn marathon if I don't get off the waiting list for a race in late Sept. This looks ideal!
I should find out if I have a place in late May, does anyone know when Abingdon normally sells out?

I registered for last year’s in June so you might be alright.

He’s got me doing c25k and it’s pretty annoying and shit.
I did it coming back from an ankle fracture. Recommended by the physio. Definitely helped keep me from doing too much too soon, so whilst it did feel like it was annoying/shit at times it was better than a possible overuse injury setting me back.

Runner's World have taken the opportunity to rehash an interview with Emil Cairess from last year, and it's a good read.
TL;DR:
- Keep it simple for most runs, run without GPS because "easy" and "steady" are what they are.
- Best go-to session for anything from 5k to marathon is threshold/tempo.
- Run off-road as much as possible. You'll enjoy your running when you're closer to nature. (I'm liking this guy's hippy vibe.)
- Fish and chips.
And a not-so-subtle advert for Adidas running shoes. Did anyone notice that nearly all the elite podium were wearing Adidas and no Nike? And yet people get Vaporfly because "everyone else is wearing them"? I feel like Nike have played a blinder getting in there first with the super shoes, but have the other brands actually caught up?

I take fuck all information from the elites of elite equipment.
It’s mostly irrelevant they’re so good. Cc pro cycling.

And many only wear those shoes because of sponsorship.
(Too many people would spot if they did what some cricketers do. Which is have their bats made by an independent bat manufacturer and then get their sponsors branding put on them.)

Abingdon sells out in about 2 months..it’s popular because it’s flat and quick

I saw the volume Emile was doing a week out from the marathon - pretty epic stuff. Seems like a great bloke

Anyone done the Dorney marathon? Looking at it to hopefully PB later this year
-
• #30262
Did the half as part of a relay triathlon. It’s fast and dull if it’s the same out and back route
-
• #30263
^ it's likely a fast route but, depending on what sort of PB you're after, you might be running alone
Only 7 people went under 3hrs last year

Yep, done the marathon there, run there most weekends and have set my 10k, half and full pbs there.
It’s dull, lonely and windy but I could set up nutrition on my own little spot to pick up each lap, and there weren’t any crowds to worry about!
-
• #30265
Yeah that looks like the plan I saw. It also shows why I never read LR forums bc it’s full of nutters

But really. Kipchoge on EPO… how fast.

Beat the first female, everyone pushing a pram and the 11-yr old doing his 100th Parkrun today. In your face, losers!

Nike Vapour/Alphafly. Are they much the same? By that I mean ferociously expensive race day only shoes.
I need some new shoes and I'm using Pegasus which I've liked to be honest. I've been rotating with Saucony Guides, like them too and Hokas which I'm not so keen on.
I have been considering going all out for the aforementioned Megabucks Nike's.
Are they worth it?

Both are very good.
I would use Alphafly for longer runs ,ideal for Marathons but you could also run one in VF.
The only downside to AF is they have air pods which can pop and render them useless.
I have bought a few pairs of used VF from eBay ( with very little wear) and so much cheaper than retail, also Vinted is very good for barely used running shoes.

Very different, I’d try on as many different shoes as possible before committing, what distance do you race?
-
• #30274
You should look at ASICS meta speed Paris as well.

The Alphafly 3 is a great shoe for 99% of distances now, although I wouldn’t like quick turns in it.
I at the minute however prefer zoom fly 3 and new balance carbon funny name.
Also entered but might try a good for age entry for ‘26 at Abingdon in October.
