I've only run 3 times this week, and I've been training seriously for 6 months building sometimes less than 1 mile a week. I try to listen to every niggle and treat it with r.i.c.e. at the earliest possibility.
I haven't got to this stage by chance EEI.

Apologies for doubting you Sharkstar! I saw your Joggers World post just there now.
The organisers issued an apology and revised times for the Brighton Half on Monday. They'd placed a turning point about 250m further along than they should have, according to the certified course map.

Maybe because I treat those niggles with a glass of sherry?

Had a 3.5/4 mile route in mind tonight, trying to edge up the distance a little bit. Felt good. Slow, but good. Uploaded the GPS: 3.1 miles. Grrr. Still, plodding away.

Oh, and RHB, tonight I did a little stretch routine I found on YouTube. Legs feel better now than they usually do after the same distance...

Well done!

When you got to the docks in Sliema did well meaning passersby try to roll you into the sea?

Went for a a 8km run last night. With a 1/2Kg weight on each foot. 2km from returning home I realised I'd lost the left weight. It was dark and pissing it down, so I figured retracing 6km would be cold and pointless.
Found the other weight this morning on my steps. So I'd run the full distance massively inbalanced. Right hamstring tight today.
Idiot Smallfurry.
Plan to wear the weights for every run, and rugby practice untill the national 7s tournament. When I will play without them and float around the pitch like Peter Pan.
-

I'm no sports expert, but is floating around like Peter Pan a wise move on a rugby pitch? Sounds like it could be painful to me.

^^ Sorry, Smallfurry, but LOL

Not posted on here in a while.....been busy with the running and so far so good !
I am up to 19 miles in my training and my Marathon date is 15th April.
How many more long runs around this mark should i do before the final day ?
I know people say you never run the full thing as it is too much plus I dont want to over do it come race day and not have the stamina for the whole thing any tips ? -

I'd want to run at least 22 miles before a marathon, as 7 miles of unknown is too much for my liking!
I plan to run 26 miles 4 weeks before and 22 miles 2 weeks before but that's just me.

So I got the Garmin eventually, run almost a km without noticing that it hadn't picked up the satellite signal.

@stix.The boss girl who's on track for 245 marathon says
4 or 5 long runs before with at least one 24 in there. -

Went for a run after work, but couldn't face traipsing through the office and down to the street so hopped on a treadmill. Set the incline to 3pc and did 4 miles. Felt really good, but I guess that's not as hard as 4 road miles. Knee feels solid, feel pretty nice now. Maybe I should alternate between road and treadmill. What's the thought on them?
-

Agree with that, difficult to separate the mental from my training plan from the bits that make sense!
You want to familiarise yourself with 'hitting the wall' so you want to do it several times, if you can manage a run that takes you longer then your worst case time that would be brilliant, and the further you can manage the better as It will limit the amount of unknown in the marathon!

These are the ones I bought: http://counterkicks.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/nike-lunarglide-2-catalog-profile-13.jpg
What's inappropriate about them? Apart from the colour, obviously; they're hideous.
I'll certainly scour YouTube for some proper stretches. Is there anything you can recommend? I went out this evening straight from work, but didn't warm up properly as I was flustered and in a rush. Wasn't comfortable on the run, couldn't settle. But having cycled home straight after I feel not too bad.
Only just tuned back in, hard for me to say what's inappropriate about them, if anything. Gait analysis would confirm if they're for you or not.

That's good news, cheaper than seeing a physio etc too.

Opinions on treadmills differ massively, but in my experience they are a bit easier, I can't quanitfy how much, I suppose the easiest way to tell would be to use a hrm and test a run over same distance on and off a treadmill trying to keep everything else as even as possible.

I can remember the shock of the transition from treadmill running (at least half an hour a day, 4 or 5 days a week) to the road; the treadmill is much more forgiving of bad shoes and poor technique. I found the treadmill much less physically stressful but it still offered opportunities for injury, since it is easier to run on a treadmill when you're tired.
I really think that the treadmill is only good for cardio. It may help you pound out some distance but the experience is nothing like the same number of miles on the road; you don't even have to carry your water/gels/whatever nor (on a more serious note) do you have to remain alert (no obstacles, course or other people on the road). If you're alternating between road and treadmill, then I think at best your technique won't suffer, but you won't gain much.
Is your knee pain from some other cause, Sparky, or from running? If the former, then alternating till your knee firms up is one thing (although I'd consider not running at all or just cutting down on the road running, till you're better). If the latter, then it's possible that something in your technique is the issue, in which case alternating may help you hide that rather than address it.

I brought my fivefingers to work with a plan to try start running again... not sure if this is a good idea

Assuming work has a shower. Is there a nearby laundrette? Practical considerations (although running kit doesn't take up a lot of space in a pack).
-
• #3025
oh there's showers etc... and I have lockers behind me. I can run over the bridge to battersea park and back. I was more concerned that it's been a long time! Guess I'll try the couch 2 5k routine to warm back up to running full time
30.85 miles in just under 4 hours.
Spent 2 of those hours in the hypoxic chamber.
Didn't feel any different, my hr was reading very low, did have bloody good air con in there though.
