  • 181 BPM for 90 minutes! You just be young.

  • That’s a big pace - congrats! I’m up for trying to scrape a sub 90 when they reschedule if you’d like a pace buddy. Hopefully I won’t shit myself.

  • Max HR is 202, I’m 36. I guess I run hot, I’ve been shocked by Henry’s HRs for his 5km.

  • Bought the decathalon jacket yesterday .. was hoping/expecting to not really need it but today’s 15km (reduced from the planned 30km) I needed it the entire run - absolutely horrible conditions in Harrogate boggy, windy, torrential rain.. jacket seemed to live up to its claims. It still felt a bit condommy but certainly kept me dry and fit and articulation felt good. The hood could have benefitted from a longer peak but beyond that seems decent for the money.

  • Today was average 17o for a 4:05 split 7km so a bit more ‘normal’.
It’s not something you want, btw, and it is not related to fitness.
Though I know I can hit 200- I just very rarely get there.

  • Sounds like a good buy 👍

  • That is kind of crazy. I'm 37 and max is 188.

  • Your welcome 👍

  • Noob question...how do you calculate your max HR if you're not just doing 220-age?

  • Go as hard as you can at the end of a 20 minute race pace effort (there are probably more scientific methods, but that is my benchmark)

  • I’m gonna try that. Found that using a chest strap (H10) is far more accurate than the optical thing on the watch.

  • Enter a 4min hill climb

  • Ok that’s kind of what I expected. Sprint your little legs off to the point that you think you’re going to be sick…

  • Bingo. I’m sure there’s zero scientific backing for income minus age + shoe size

  • I have no idea what this means but no doubt you’re right

  • 220 - age is clearly nonsense

  • Anyone in Highgate Harriers who knows the youth coordinator? My 8 (soon to be 9) year old would like to try the Tuesday night sessions. I think they're over subscribed, but I've emailed a couple of times with no reply

Guess we could just rock up and see one Tuesday

  • I'm pleased to see that I'm far too old to worry about the times you guys are putting down.

I picked up a book this week called Science Of Running, it's useful enough but does anyone have recommendations for running books?

  • running books

    Lore of Running

    80/20

    If older, Fast after 50

  • Running With The Kenyans by Adharanand Finn and The Rise Of The Ultra Runners by the same author are great.

Born to Run by Christopher McDougall is also good and was what really kicked off the minimalist running movement years ago.

  • I don’t, but I ran for a couple of years with the seniors. There were super welcoming when I first joined so I think it’s worth turning up

  • +1 with born to run, it’s an entertaining read even for folk not interested in running

I also liked Feet in the Clouds (I think) about fell running

  • Yeah, prob easiest thing to do

  • This is one of the best books about sport, ever.
