I think the cycling to work and back everyday has bolstered my base level of fitness. It's only 2.6 miles each way but that means I have been doing at least 26 miles a week even at my laziest. Playing rugby has probably done a lot for my attitude towards physically strenuous activities as in a game, even if you feel knackered, if you don't carry on, you'll let everyone else down and get a bad name in the club. So, while running tonight, I could have easily turned back before 1 mile but I just told myself to HTFU and thought about anything else (the game coming up this Saturday, what I need to do in work tomorrow, etc) other than the fact I might have been a little tired. I think I might have actually said "stop being such a little cunt" at one stage. No idea if it was out loud or not. Although it wouldn't have been out of the ordinary on Coldharbour Lane.
Which reminds me, I need more music, went through my useless playlist about 5 times.

Heh, I found that the easiest way to make sure I ran 10k was to run 5k away from my house, that way I had to do the second 5k back again.

yeah but you could still walk. if you like I could record some "inspirational audio" for your walkman/discman/minidisc/mp3 player/cerebral implant? Nothing like a sweary Northern Irishman to kick your arse up and down the road!
i hate the idea of out and backs for some reason, hate going over the same route. sticking with loops for now

Did my first interval session of the year, 8 x 1km 90% exerts with 500m recovery jogs. Managed to average 3min 53 sec over the 8 intervals. Was tough. Took a lot of mental rigour to not stop at 6 intervals.
1km recovery swim in the morning then 1hr of laps round regents on the bike tomorrow night. Legs will learn to co-operate. -

That's the spirit!
I think I'll patent this, smart phone app, tracks your run and when you drop below a certain pace it swears at you and threatens to tell your mum exactly how much porn is hidden deep in the printer drivers folder on your laptop at home.

So I finally signed up to a London club; only took me 2 years...
I've also signed up for a couple of races: Watford half, Surrey league XC and Sidcup 10. Plan is to race myself fit for the summer.

I believe, but can't remember the reasoning, that dehydration reduces the ability of your muscles in endurance events, but has no effect on strength. Past a certain point you'll reach a threshold which will begin to affect your performance. I think it has something to do with Phosphate and H+/ Ca2+? K+ levels.
2% loss of bodyweight due to dehydration is when performance starts to decrease measurably.

I'm always amazed at the number of people who hit the first water station after 20 mins in half marathons. If you're properly hydrated at the start of the race you shouldn't need a drink for an hour in hot weather, or at all in this weather, assuming you're running faster than nine minute mile pace.
^ Never run in Australia

You can get all of the hydration & electrolytes you need from licking the necks of people that you pass.
^ Possibly has run in Australia

i've never done any research on the topic but i follow the little and often route.
This is generally the best option but if it's really hot (not in this country) you can benefit from drinking a lot in one go as gastric emptying is more efficient when the stomach is full. So rather than sipping you might down a 500ml bottle in one hit. As with everything, it's something you need to train for to find out what works for you and adjust to the conditions.

Just back from seeing the surgeon, there is a Neuroma, it will need surgery, that will take 3-4 months, can I do Roubaix? He strongly recommends that I don't.

+1 gazillion.
Your body hates running and will quickly rebel if you eat or drink in a manner it considers non-ideal.Just back from seeing the surgeon, there is a Neuroma, it will need surgery, that will take 3-4 months, can I do Roubaix? He strongly recommends that I don't.
Shite news :(

He did say that if I had £1,840 on me, we could do the operation this weekend, and I would therefore have enough recovary time for the Sportive.

Paypal donation campaign?
stop Dammit buying multiple/identical plastic bicycles campaign?
think of it as an investment in extreme weight loss. a neuroma has got to weigh more that the different between a carbon top cap and a metal one? get them to lop a few unnecessary toes off while they're at it?

sucky news though

Tiswas- there is the possibility of the operation in April, I reckon that if I kill myself training I can be fit for June 10th if that is the case.
But the op might be later in the year, and then I don't think I have a chance.
Shall we both train for it, and the person with two feet goes out to ride the Roubaix?

I'm 75% sure that's what ours is, he'll run for days, and at home, never chews, completely calm.
Also, very little shedding. -
