I’d be interested how you find them for running.
I still can’t decide

I can confirm it’s still possible to run in non carbon shoes... pretty comfortable as well actually!

Yeah i ran in £12.99 shorts from Decathlon yesterday and my legs functioned as normal. 8x 1200m @3:33 pace and felt comfortable so i don't think my so called posh shorts would have made any difference. 10 mile tt this weekend is on. Possibly in cheap shorts.

First dibs
They’re free right?

one for the golf club thread right there!

I just found a Tarmac SL7 gathering dust in the shed. Need to charge the di2 but otherwise looks good to ride.

Just did five miles in my new GT2000. They are noticeably lighter but apart from that I can't feel any difference to the Gel Kayanos at all. That's how much of a shoe pleb I am. Let's see how well they last.
When they wear out I'm going to try some GT1000 and see how they go.

Did another 5km in them .. actually got my PB for my usual route but that has as much to do with traffic lights favouring me..
I’m a bit old-fashioned in that I like a bit of padding in the upper.. they are defo missing that, presumably to keep weight down. They’re not a plush ride like I’m used to with ultraboost but felt comfortable underfoot and maybe less marshmallowy, certainly still not agile.
I think I’m at the point where I’ll just attempt to stockpile pre-2017 ultraboosts when I can find them cheap.

Yeah - I had these and 2 pairs of vaporflys which I'd put in a box when moving house. I remembered having the vaporflys but not these. Gave them a test last night and will use them for this weekends marathon.

I’ve been watching a lot of edd bud reviews and he really rates ultra boost even though they are a bit heavier.
He has also reviewed the puma ultraride very favourable

10 miles at marathon pace this lunchtime, bit concerned that avg. heart rate was 165 which seems a bit beaty for a marathon, but trying to remind myself that i ran a half marathon PB 4 days ago so still recovering from that.

I had a voucher I won at work so have order the ultra boost pb and the sl20

I don’t think that’s surprising, I always find marathon paced runs astonishingly hard in training.
I think there are two reasons for this... first is training load and fatigue. When you do marathon pace in training you are almost always carrying substantially more fatigue than when you toe the line in a race, plus less adrenaline.
The other element of this is that the faster you get, the harder you are running. This might sound platitudinous but I think (in general) people focussing on slower times are more concentrated on survival and finishing, whereas as you approach sub3 and beyond you are really trying to hold a pace very close to 95% threshold pace. That is a hard pace to hold for an extended period and combined with fatigue It’s not surprising to see higher hr.

Good luck!

I've entered the virtual London Marathon. It's a bit daft seeing as my longest run in recent memory is 13 miles, and I can't really be bothered to do a load of training, but hey ho, I need a new tshirt.
How many months to get fit? I seem to remember my old training plans lasting around 16 weeks.
I don't think I'll have a crack at sub 3 unless something miraculous happens between now and then, but I might try to improve on my 3:10 PB. Might being the operative word here

Cheers I'm going for it Sunday. I'm sure a PB is on as the plan has been going really well. I'm going to treat it like a race and carb up the day before and make sure I'm fully hydrated, proper race warm up and get stuck in. Hope the plans going well for you. Are you waiting until the end of the 12 weeks before you test yourself?
-
• #25070
Do you mean mile or k? Thought you were training for a 10k PB?
-
• #25071
Yeah I'm 8 weeks into the 10k pb that @doubleodavey put up and i thought @juanito said he was on it too. I didn't know if anyone else had taken it up. I'll do a 10k again at the end of the plan so i can measure the improvement exactly but this weekend I'm doing the 10 mile tt instead of my long run. It'll end up nearly 15 miles including warm up and down. I'm confident I'll be able to run it at my 10k test pace from the beginning of the plan so I know my 10k pace is improving. I'll be running a half in June or July so whatever time i clock for the 10 miles I'll spend the few months working towards being able to hold that pace for a half. That seemed logical when I thought about it but less so now I've written it down 🤔

I've stopped. Sadly. I got ill. Missed a hill session and a long run. Lost motivation for a week. Decided to jump straight back in with a tough speed session 8x300 and 4 x150, which I did at 4:45-4:48, so a decent lick. Then couldn't walk due to achilles pain for about 4 days. Felt a bit better so did the virtual road relays time trial, 5 miles in 28.24 and hurt myself again. Have made it up to 40 minutes today but can't toe off on my left foot. So yeah, will have to start again at some point, particularly now there's racing possibilities ahead.

I was considering entering the virtual London marathon. Do you have to carry your phone when you are doing the virtual race? and do you know if times in the virtual race will count for the proper one the next year?
-
• #25074
The times count for GFA, according to their FAQs.
They are also pushing their app, but according to this https://www.runnersworld.com/uk/news/a33816236/virtual-2020-london-marathon/ you can submit running watch / Strava as evidence. I hadn't even thought about it until you mentioned it. Sod running about with my phone

Ok, the times counting for GFA etc is a bit more of an incentive to take part.
I thought I'd got away with it, could've turned left at 3 miles to take the short route home, but turned right to add a mile to my route and it was almost a mile too far.
