Not just you. I struggle with anything fast in summer. Whether it's partly hayfever, but the air feels too close and I never feel like I'm getting a lungful of air.
No such problems in winter. I tend to run warm, so a t shirt and maybe gloves tends to be fine and I don't overheat.

Good to know - yeah I run in shorts and tee-shirt just with gloves when its zero.

• #24380
Same here. Love it when the temperature drops.

I feel this. I can’t do anything in the heat. I tend to be hot all the time any way

Well done. First run is the hardest.

My club does a baton relay in the winter. Running 1.16 miles flat out, in the cold, with varying levels of winter illness courtesy of three primary school kids, has me coughing for at least an hour afterwards

Saw someone running earlier with what looked like lights wrapped round the backs of his shoes. Imagine if the bubble round the back of an old skool Nike Air 180 was lit up red; it looked a bit like that. Any idea what they were?

ronhill light shoe clip?
Other companies make them too.
Look pretty rad -

I looooove winter running. Yesterday it was -4 at midday and I ran with a huge grin on my face. I think back to the summer and keep thinking that I must be so much fitter/faster these days but then I really contemplate the summer (40 degrees, 95% humidity) and I realise it's just the weather flattering me.

I have a some led armband things that I sometimes wear around my ankles, they make me feel like I'm in tron. Alas they don't really make me any safer/more visible as no one looks up from their phones regardless, but I feel rad and that's what counts.

I saw someone with them blue light things on their shoes a couple of days ago, immediately i thought "I want them".
In other news. Did a run last night and was happy.
Before going out I was not in a place of self like about myself and Christmas gluttony and was feeling pretty negative about the thought of 3 * 1.8 km intervals.
Went out, did them. Did them well (I think, they felt good abd my watch kept telling me I was ahead of pace). Felt better. -

TL;Dr
Do some exercise. It might make you feel better. -
• #24391
Absolutely - its like a gentle tailwind when cycling and thinking your fitness has really improved!

18:46 for this mornings 5k, about 14 seconds improvement from 4 weeks ago, so relatively pleased..
Les than a minute off my all time best, given I’m 9kg heavier at the moment I reckon like for like it’s pretty comparable.

Anybody want these? Super quick as they weigh nothing but too minimal for me. Only used for one track session and one 5k road race. Ultra light but zero cushioning almost like running barefoot but with grip so maybe good if you do intervals on grass or fancy a fast mile - 5k attempt and don't care about smashing your legs up? Free just cover the postage

Funnily enough I have a pair of exactly those that I set my half marathon PB, they force you to look after your feet unlike the current crop of squishy shoes!
Can’t really imagine running in them at the moment though!
-
• #24396
I'm never going to run in them again either now I'm used to my next %'s these are about as far from that as you can get but they are £240 cheaper 😉

• #24397
If my feet weren't so niggly I might have had these off you, but the only racing I dare go vaguely minimalist for these days* is 5k or less on the track, and I use (XC) spikes for those.
*Ah, track racing. Those were the days!

Any form of racing
Those were the days ☹️ -
• #24399
How do they fit?
Keen to try a more minimal shoe out...

I've got a 27 cm foot and these fit like a sock i wear 8.5 in Nike and Saucony as well and these are true to size but they are supposed to hug your foot similar to a racing spike fit. They are narrow like any racer.
Hi all, new to this thread but not to running.
Is it just me that finds it so much easier to run when its very cold?
Feel twice the runner in the Winter months.
