  • Third Surrey league of the season today. A week of total meh on the return to work so will have to see what transpires.

    Good luck racers and trainers.

  • A running friend has just launched a new venture, featuring some running, good food and nice accommodation.

  • No xc league for me, have had chesty lurgy since Bowstones, must've been in the post when I ran that. Disappointing start to the year but not much can be done just rest until recovered.

    Have fun @juanito et al

^ the dramathon package looks ace @user69121

  • my first crack at Ally Pally, looking forward to not having to clean a bike after an xc race!

  • is that the Met league? good luck

  • #project19 unlocked
    1944 at Dulwich parkrun today.
Can buy some new kit now.

  • Funny the dog question should come up, I had a small yappy dog go for my ankle last week and I was going to ask what everyone else did. Only had one other incident like that when the dog was actually going for me and it was about 10 years ago, but every time I stopped it backed off and every time I went to run on, it attacked again. So it’s not like it happens all the time.

It’s not like you can even use dog logic with a lot of those stupid yappy dogs. I don’t think their brains are big enough.

  • Congratulations.

  • As the owner of a Jack Russell cross myself, the owners are dicks to have it off the lead around runners. Mine will chase anything instinctively, even a horse.

Anyway - I’ve run 35km this week and I’m buzzing. Learned I hate running at night though. Ordered a new head torch to see if that helps but I love looking around.

  • 35? Dived right in didn't you?

  • How are people keeping their running shoes clean in this weather? Most of my running is done off road, to save my old joints, and my shoes are getting increasingly dirty.

Washing machine when no-one else is around?

  • I wore my crusty spikes recently in Essex, in a race with not much mud but a big puddle. They were much cleaner after that.

In terms of actually washing them, I don't, but I do dry them by stuffing them with newspaper.

You can put them in the washing machine but make sure it is a low heat wash. Put them inside a mesh bag too, if you have one

  • Yes I did. Ran a bit towards the end of last year but I’ve really been bitten by it. Find bad weather is far less likely to put me off a run than it would a ride.

I tend to get quite obsessed by things and used to train about 10 hours a week on the bike. I appreciate a sport where my joints are subjected to impact probably won’t let me do as much.

Is what I wash our football boots with.

I don't wash my running shoes. They're torture/training devices. Fuck them.
Newspaper to dry them, if they're really bad

  • just wash the worst of the mud off then chuck them in the washing machine on 30 low spin. Says the man with white xc shoes

  • I’ve just got them clean with a stiff brush and a couple of wet wipes. That’ll do for now.

  • Rinse in the bathtub whilst I shower, once stopped dripping air dry on a windowsill above radiator.

  • How are people keeping their running shoes clean?

    I don't understand the question.

  • I’ve found that injuring myself and not using them does wonders for keeping them clean

If they get muddy I just take them into the shower with me and rinse them through

  • I don't understand the question.

Exactly, I've never washed a pair of running shoes and for half of the year my local parkrun often involves running through sections of 4" deep mud or 6" deep puddles.

I have more than one pair (of both trail and non-trail shoes) in case they haven't dried by the next time I run. Otherwise most of the mud drops off in the first km or so of the next run.

  • Andy washes his bikes as well. ITS MADNESS.

  • Washing machine when no-one else is around?

Brush off excess muck, laces and inners removed, then 30 minute cold cycle.

I'm convinced it makes my running shoes last longer.

We used to have a washer drier. I may have forgottent the dry cycle. My trainers may have been utterly fucked.
